Hi all,

Been trying to fit an alarm to the car, a 1.7 Diesel (Start), but having major trouble on deciding where to put it.
Now, on the drivers side off the car just behind the headlamp is a large box with a hose which goes up to the air filter bit.
I basically took this box off to see if there was adequate space underneath it to fit the alarm. There isnt.

But what puzzled me was this box, which to me seems completely empty and hollow. I looked at the pipe to which the hose attaches to, and found out that the pipe comes straight out the other side. You can see right through it. This to me suggests that this box does completely nothing ! Though there is a very small hole within this pipe / tube thing.

Does anybody have any idea what this 'empty' box does, and would it be safe not to have it installed in the car ???

Or is it just there because the car likes to have redundant parts and would feel lonely without it......

Thanks !

Rich.

P.S. If photos r wanted let me know.

Bit of a wild guess, but it might be a 'resonator box'. Ford fitted a wierd system to Mondeos that had a 4" x3" empty box on the end of a 2' piece of trunking to the air intake system - this killed a resonance technically termed 'mooseing' at certain engine speeds / throttle openings.

Or I might be talking out of me arse again.......

The empty box is it a water trap ? .
A hole front and rear and a small at the bottom water to drain away.

Can you fit the alarm in the car nice and dry.... under the dash etc
and the horn/siren in the engine bay or and in the car eg 2 horn's/sirens :D.

Yeah, it's a 'resonator box,' took it off and run the car, noise went up a little, but nothing to complain about, its not exactly quiet at speed anyway given its a diesel... :D

Cheers for ya help.

Rich.
