Afternoon all,

I've got a bit of a challenge on at the moment when it comes to finding a clutch match for my Uno.

Im looking to buy one (or at least get a price) over the interenet for a clutch kit.

I've fitted one before and I had a bit of a dilemma when it came to matching the clutch up. I ordered a genuine Fiat clutch by chassis number and it came through wrong, I then ordered the other type (theres only two types) and that was also wrong. In the end I had to go round to the local motor factors with the old clutch and get them to match one up, the one that we matched up in the end that ended up fitting was out of a Fiat Tipo  does anyone know if unos of a certain year were fitted with a Tipo gearbox because this is puzzling me when it comes to which clutch to purchase as I can't afford to take the gearbox out and the clutch is wrong!

What about gearbox specs/numbers/parts numbers or anything like that? does anyone know where I colud source the gearbox specs for the car so that when I buy the clutch I could match the kit up using the gearbox specs?!?

Yep, the Mk2 1372cc Uno models (SXi.e. and Turbo i.e.) had the Tipo gearbox, identifiable by the gearchange linkage ('inside' the car rather than under the floor) with two transverse ball-jointed links to the transmission. Also, the 1988 Mk1 Turbo i.e. (like mine!) had this gearbox after a certain date in 1988.

It is definitely wishful thinking to have gearbox specs/numbers/part numbers, and to expect the clutch to match up based on chassis number... well... what can I say... ;)

I find it's usually best to know the parts you're after and just keep pressing for them to look up (in this case) a Tipo 1.6 clutch kit...

I went through this a year or so back, and it's even more exciting when you get to the release bearing. The one I put into my Uno was a totally different shape and half the thickness of the one that came out (almost 2cm difference!) The clutch works better than ever.

Seriously, the clutch is one of the few items which seems to vary enormously. Most other parts (e.g. brakes) will match up OK with the books.

A mate of mine who rallys a 1.4Sie Uno, has just gone through this, so if you get stuck i can speak to him to try and find out what part number finally worked for him.
