Hi all
This is my first post so forgive me if this sounds a bit crap or watever.

I have a fiat Uno Start 1 litre ie. Its a great car and i love driving i've had four cars since i've been driving in a year and a bit and this is by far the best i've had and for £50 i can't grumble. But........
Just recently i have started to get problems with it. first of all my oil sump rusted through so i had to buy a new tray. i also brought a new distributor a oil was leaking from there and since then i've had more severe problems. Wen i start the car its very lumpy and feels like its going to stall. Even wen i put my foot on the gas and take it back off it still runs very bad. once the engine is warm its fine and i can pull about 105mph no probs its just the beginning part as it on occasion stalls wen i pull out of a road. its no problem to start back up again its just annoyin. i'm hoping someone can shed some light on this problem for me.?? N e Ideas??

Thanks guys

Mike

it may jus be that the car has been pushed too much during its life and its just beginning to give up... hence why it cost u £50.

Surely you were expecting problems?

Try giving the carb a clean. Get to halfords and buy some stuff called Redex. Follow the insructions.. it might help a bit.

50£. That's cheaper than ONE tire. I'd be happy the car started if I payed this for it. No engine is happy when cold. You should never push it until it reaches normal temperature. The steel, iron and aluminum parts of the engine is expanding and fitting themselves to each other during heat-up, so it isn't that strange a car (and engine) worth two tanks of gasoline acts a bit strange when cold. But what will make it better is what Bushboy says - give the injection a good cleaning, it sure worked on my 1.1ieS. It is propably contaminated with greasy oil deposits and dust that has come from the oil breather (left hose) and through the poor air filter.

Another option:
if it really did all go wrong after the distributor change you could repair and replace the old one if...

the leak was from the outside of the distributor they sell an "O" ring which is less than 1UKP which fits over the outside of the bit that plugs into the camshaft.

or if the leak was from inside, Enzo recently replaced the internal seal on his car.

Equally, you may have put on a good enough distributor with a leaky vacuum advance which gives you a significant inlet manifold air leak (which is not a good thing) - try blowing through the advance unit: if you can't it's OK.

or, you may not have the timing set correctly.

YMMV

you gte 105mph out of your uno thats not fair mine stuggles to get to 90mph down hill :( alot i aint tried to clean out my injection yet as ive been too gbusy doin 300miles in it in 5days :/ my arse is killing me after all this sitting down. £50 cant grouble at that tho can ya m8 really.

gotta love the uno's

Might also be an oil pressure problem. We changed bearings on the crank shaft of a Ritmo Abarth, and to get access we had to remove the sump pan. This led to low oil pressure and not a very happy engine.

Morten. Always pleased to help.
