Hi UNO-communioty,

I've a question about the diagnostic-capability of the Monojetronic (Bosch) operating the 1,1L engine in my MKII-UNO (Mj 1992). I know there is a 3-pol superseal connector floating around near the ECU with two pins in use, GND (black wire) and diagnostic-out (white/red wire). I learnt it should be easy to derive an error-message from that diagnostic-out as a flashing-code with help of a LED. The step by step procedure to get the code is well-known: LED in series with 1kOhm from diagnostic-out to Batt plus, engine start, let engine run to light warm-up, then engine-speed shortly above 2000rpm, let engine still run in idle, put a bridge between diagnostic-out and GND for at least 5sec, finally the error-codes should outcome. My problem is the frequency of the flash-code. I thought I could "read" the four-digits corresponding to the number of flashes and write it down on a paper, so to say in real-time. But, in fact, it's not possible to follow the LED-output, because it's high-frequency, absolutely strange. The question: Is it possible, that FIAT does not offer this simple diagnostic read-out with a LED in later ECU's, so you need a special diagnostic-device (OBD) to read out the codes?

Appreciating any hint, Hajo
