Unhappy Mk 2 Front Fog Lamp Bulbs

Has anyone replaced them?

Both Porter and Haynes manual suggest you undo the wire and 2 retainer nuts and remove forward. Looks impossible to me as the glass wonít fit past the bumper .

Anyone got any tips. I canít reach the two upper mounting screws to remove the plastic housing, with Uno on the ground. Looks like itís going to be a very tight squeeze with the car on axle stands, or a bumper off job .

Re: Mk 2 Front Fog Lamp Bulbs

You might remember Louie, that we had a similar problem trying to fit a fog light to Bianca back in the summer!

I can't actually remember how we did it in the end, but I do remember that we had a lot of problems trying to fit it from the front. I've got a feeling that we managed to squeeze it in from the back somehow?

You are probably best removing the front bumper. It's actually a very simple job on a mk1, and I'm sure the mk2 is virtually the same. With the bumper off the fog light will slot in and out from behind without any problems. Once out it's easy to unscrew the fog light to get to the bulb inside.

The only problems you might encounter are that the bumper retaining nuts have rusted up. Get the WD40 out and give them a good soaking first before attempting removal! Turboned tells me that they are still available from Fiat for pennies, so all is not lost if you have to break them.

Oh, and once fitted make sure you only use the fog lights when it's foggy, unlike all the Chavs

Cheers!

Chas

Re: Mk 2 Front Fog Lamp Bulbs

Thanks for the comments guys

Chas, I do recall fitting the (MK1) fog lamp to Bianca . We fitted them from the back, as the glass is too wide to fit through the bumper. With a bit of glass crunching, you just cleared it into place . You carried on with the callipers , while I spent what seemed like agesí tightening the retainer bolts.

The MK2 ones are a bit different. They mount in a plastic housing, which in turn screws onto the bumper. The plastic housing is sealed at the back, so this time around it isnít viable to fit or remove them rearwards, without also removing the housing.

Last night I managed to remove the studs which mount lamp to housing (plenty of WD40), but failed to get the glass through the bumper.

Steve, I forgot to mention my Ďnewí front bumper is an after market bumper for an SX. Measuring the holes on this and my spare Turbo bumper revels less clearance for the glass to pass .

Iím away this weekend, so Iíll have to jack the car up the weekend after, and see if I can reach the upper mountain screws. Failing that, itís looking like bumper off.

Cheers for the Chav reminder Chas . Itís only the 2ND time its been foggy enough to flick the switch, so only the 3rd time they been used Ė presuming the MOT station test them
