Hi all,

I'm having trouble locating the starter motor on my 1992 Uno with 1108cc FIRE engine :D, which is now being dismantled for parts.

If needed, I am planning to transfer the used starter to my other Uno (1993, 1 litre FIRE engine), or keep it as a matching spare. At the moment, I have the classic grating noise after the car fires up but hopefully this is just the engagement lever in need of a clean and grease, assuming the brushes are not too worn.

I found some info from a previous thread when Alex mentioned the motor is held in place by 3 x 13mm bolts (battery disconnected first), and can be accessed from the top rather than jacking up the car.

A couple of photos are attached showing the area where I thought the starter might be (Haynes manual not much help this time).

A nudge in the right direction with the location would be appreciated

Andy

It's just a bit above the first pic. I think the smaller of the two bolts in the top left is one of the starter bolts.

Thanks for the info Steve, further photo attached showing what looks like the starter.

Cheers,
Andy
