Uno diesel no fuel at filter (broke down)

Hello All

I can't believe that my Uno broke down. First time it has done so and I've had the car for nearly 2 years and more than 28,000 miles.

Driving at about 40mph, a slight hesitation suggesting lack of fuel, then the engine stopped. It restarted reluctantly, ran for a couple of seconds, then stopped.

After towing it home, I loosened the bleed nipple + both pipes to / from filter, pumped the rubber bulb thingy. No result. Changed filter, filling new one with diesel first. Completely disconnected pipe from bulb to filter, pumped it, but still no fuel came out. Bulb does feel very firm.

Any ideas? Oh incidentally I did put a gallon of diesel in when I got home, but it was indicating a quarter of a tank and it's uaually reliable (I note mileage on fuel receipts).

Thanks in advance

No, but haven't really looked because I have been busy doing other stuff.

It did look like there might be a fuel leak from one injector, the one on the far left (so n1 or n4) so I cleaned all the gunk off it and will have a better look tomorrow.

Possible problem in bulb.
Squeezy bulb has two valves in it , if out valve is stuck or blocked closed you won't be able to squeeze it and no fuel can get out.

Sort this out first or risk causing other problems.

I know what your problem might be.The fuel sender in the tank has a small screen at its base. When this screen is clogged the entire fuel line is under low pressure and eventually forms a strong vaccumm that sucks the fuel back to the tank.It happened to me on the highway and what a nightmare I had in the 50 degree heat.

Fold your rear seat.Pull the carpet back and you'll see a black cover with two screws.Take them off and you you see the fuel sender below the black plate.Carefully take off the fuel lines the plastic of the fuel sender can break ,becareful not to interchange the main line and return line. Then once the lines are out of the way use a screw driver and hammer and gently tap the sender on it outer part of the grove to turn it anti clockwise(it will be hard to remove by hand),also take out the fuel level connection. Then pull out the fuel sender and remove the screen from the bottom and wash it.Put everything back together and you should be good.Although I do recommend dropping your tank and washing it.

If you still have problem then
1)Make sure your injection pump is working.
2)No air leanks in your fuel line or fuel filter assembly.
3)Your priming plunger isnt worn out or leaking.

Regards,
Clayton.
