Hi

Any tips on how to change the diesel filter on a 1993 Uno?

I did a search and found a reply stating that "....all the information is on the net......" which may well be true, but I can't find it. Hence this post.

I do have a manual, but not one for the diesel engine.

Many thanks in advance

It's a very narrow space, you need a good set of adjustable pliers, specialy made for loosening (oil) filters.
Once loose, take the filter out from above.
Fill the new filter completely with fresh dieselfuel, and put it on from above, use no pliers for this.
It will start right away, no bleeding.

Thanks for the reply Peter. I do have a pair of filter pliers, recently used to remove the oil filter. I thought that it was held in by the bolt on top, but perhaps the filter needs wiggling if it has been there for a while.

Good to know that (in theory) there's no bleeding, but at least there's a handly little pump thing right nextdoor to the filter.

I never had to use that pump in 10 years ownership and about 250.000km in my 1,7 Fiorino Pick-Up ( same engine (bay)).
I used to change the fuelfilter every 15.000km, and I only use Bosch filters.

All sorted. Many thanks Peter. It went exactly as you said it would.

The only suggestion that I might add is "put a newspaper between the filter and the alternator. This way, if there are any spills, you won't pour diesel on the alternator." I didn't lose any fuel, but did put a paper down just in case.

Next job is the water pump..... no idea how to go about this.
