Hi there

Can someone please explain the correct way which the Uno is supposed to warm up?

I owned a VW Citi Golf 1.4 Carb model a while back, and when it was driven for about 5 mins the temp would rise to optimal point (halfway on gauge) and stay that way throughout a drive.

On my Uno on the other hand, the temp rises to halfway gauge point in about 10mins, which isn't that bigger deal? My main concern is that when driving it drops below halfway as I hit a high way or so. And when Idle it rises again to halfway. Is this the normal behaviour? Whats happening?

Thanks

Hi Stephen ,what you're experiencing is normal,Your temps on the highway will be lower because there is much more air flow through the radiator thus cooling the engine.

While idling the cooling is done by a fan behind ithe radiator. If you feel temps are too high then check if the fan is working ,it's should start about 30 after you stop your car and let it idle.

If everything is fine and you still find temps too high or fluctuating too much then I suggest a coolant flush and then use a good anti freeze as this will increase the boiling point of water.

Also remember that the older gauges weren't that accurate and the car is old.

Hope this helped.

If the temps drop significantly (more than about 15c) when running at speed and it takes longer than expected to warm up I would suggest the thermostat is stuck open and therefore always circulating coolant to the radiator, so at highway speeds the engine gets over cooled.

If this is the case I'd get it replaced sooner rather than later as it can cause bad fuel economy.
