Hi guys , just found the forum (y)

I`ll just fill you in with a few details so bear with me , a couple of years ago my younger Bro decided to buy his mates MK1 Uno Turbo with the intention of doing it up unfortunatly he is`nt exactly a competent mechanic ( fluid levels are about his limit ) and basically thrust the car on to me by storing it at my house and getting me to do the work on it .

The car itself was reasonably mechanically sound with just the usual knackered hand brake , split cv boots etc etc and generally just in need of some tlc unfortunatly the same could`nt be said for the body with quite a substantial amount of welding required all round ( rear turrets , inner sills , outer sills , floor , rear arch ) which i started to tackle in my spare time but due to work commitments and a general lack of assistance from my Bro i never managed to finish .

Ever since then then the car as just sat at the bottom of my garden in a half finished state and finally after threatening to tow it down to his nice new house my brother as given me the car and told me to get rid of it and basically keep whatever money i can make from it for myself .

The car is too far gone now to ever be put back on the road so i feel the best course of action would be to break it .

So what i want to know is how much demand for parts is there with these ?

I need to get my hands on a starter motor for it so i can get the engine running and i`m struggling to find somewhere to pick a used one up from ( thats how i stumbled on to this forum ) where can i find one ?

Can anybody give me some pointers to what parts are worth ?

The car did have some after market parts fitted as follows :-

Scorpion stainless exhaust
A combination of spax & koni shocks with very low springs ( spax fronts , koni rears )
Drilled and grooved front discs
Six spoke 13'' alloys ( belived to be off a vw polo )

the rest is all stock and the body panals with the exeption of the tailgate are all fubar , are there any other parts that are like hens teeth and are worth holding on to before i start ripping it apart ?

Sorry for the long post & thanks in advance for any help or advice ,

Cheers ,

Sean .

Hi Sean
If you have a look on e bay you will find an array of uno parts for sale to give u an idea of prices.
The only problem is if the part is heavy the postage costs outway the item.
Best u find someone who is local who wants some of the parts.
You can always put in on e bay and post smaller items and request heavier parts to be collected.
Good luck
Pete
ps I am sure someone on this forum may have the alloys off u

Hi Sean,

That is one dead Uno

Its hard to put prices of parts TBH. sometimes an item brings loads on e-bay, others it brings much less.

Dunc might be interested when he sees this thread as his friend is working on a MK1 Turbo project. They may be after MK1 interior. It’s getting hard to find these days.

The fibre tailgate may sell with the rear lamps, strike plate, parcel shelf and bits where the standard speakers fit as A MK2 to MK1 rear end conversion.

Bumpers, front anti roll bar, clocks, steering wheel, engine, gearbox ect. might sell too.

Its probably best to wait for a free listing day on e-bay and whack them on :) You can always say in your listing to e-mail for info on other Uno turbo parts.

Then again, if the engine runs well, it might sell as a to be re shelled project. - Definitely worth more than scrap value ;)

Good Luck!

i'd say "omg" but i think the car is a bit beyond that, however if like louie says mechanically its sound, get a cheap 45s and re-shell, failing that i'd like to put a tentative shout up for the interior, seats, belts, cards, trim, glass and electric windows!

good luck

Did Mrk1s come with Electric Windows?!

I've been told countless times that they never had them and cant be retrofitted to it either.

Which if true would SUCK!

Whoever told you that is talking poo poo!

Mk1 Turbos, SX's and very early 70S's had electric windows (only on the front in the case of 5 door models). At least all UK spec models did.

The motors from the mk2 and mk1 are the same. They simply bolt in place of the original winders. Also, 5 door SX motors WILL fit a 3 door Uno, despite what people might say. I know because I've done it. :D

The wiring is a bit of a pain, but you can remove just the electric window wiring loom from the main loom and fit it to a non electric window models loom. A few bits need to be altered if you want to make it look factory fitted, otherwise it's simplay a case of splicing in about 3 or four wires. Use the Haynes wiring diagram(s) for reference!

I fitted the electric windows from a very early 70S (1984 model) into my first mk1 45, which had the switches in a pod below the radio console. Later models had them incorportated into the door pulls/ armrests.

I've just retro fitted the electric window wiring from a mk2 turbo into my mk1 45S. All the wiring is in place, now all I have to do is fit the motors! I also need to fit the turbo front door cards as they carry the electric window switches, though I'm not sure if they will be a straight swap. The door opening lever is in a different place for a start...

Will find out soon when I get some spare time from college studies!

Thanks for the input guys , much appreciated :worship:

I`m deffo gonna be breaking it but would prefer to get the motor running first and sell all the mechanicals as one same with the interior etc etc as i`m struggling with a general lack of space :bang:

Yes it`s got electric windows i also think i managed to remove all the plastic sill & arch mouldings without damaging them :) can`t remember how good the seats are but i do know the door cards & rear quarter trims have holes in them for addition speakers and so has the parcel shelf altho that as quite a neat finish to it ( cloth covered mdf fitted to it for a stealth look ) .

I`ll try and take some more photo`s later in the week :)
