well got my instructions for the tacho today, dont understand um to good tho. will quote them and will someone please simplyfy them and explain a little more please!? many thanks you wonderfull people ;) :D (y)

"1. connect tachometer ground (BLACK) wire negative (-) battery terminal or to a good chasis ground

2. connect tachometer power (RED) wire to a switched + 12V circuit at fuse box, or splice into any vehicle harness wire which is energized ONLY when ignition key is ON (RUN) postition

3. connect tachometer LED memory (ORANGE) wire to battery and (WHITE) wire to night lamp

4. connect tachometer signal (GREEN) wire to appropriate vehicle tachometer signal source

5. secure lead wires along their route to prevent damage from sharp edges, moving parts or hot engine components

6. turn on ignition DO NOT START ENGINE tachometer pointer should rotate to minimum or "0" when ignition is turned on

7. start and run enine rev engine several times and verify tachometer indication changes as rpm increases and decreases make sure tachometer pointer operation is smooth and even"

thanks charlie

its saying connect red wire to a switched power feed (12v when ignition on, 0v when ignition off)

the black wire to a ground source (any wire connecting to the cars body)

orange wire to the battery

white wire to the illumination feed (yellow wire off the ignition barel IIRC - is live when your lights are switched on)

Green wire goes to the green wire on the coil. The coil is on the passenger side of the engine bay, and the green wire to use in the first from the inside IIRC. You will most likely need to get a sperate piece of wire and run it through the bulkhead to connect the tacho to the coil.

job done :)

cheers luke, how do i get to the yellow on the ignition barrel? and wheres teh best 12v for the red?

charlie

Use scotchlocks, thats the easiest way to attach to the wires. You will need to get a multimeter on the connectors on the end of the wires to test whether that is the correct wire (live when lights are on, dead when lights are off). As for the red wire, again you have to have a switched live. Use your multimeter and check for some wires that come on when the ignition is started.

To get to them you'll need to take off the underside of the dash and the steering column bottom cover on the drivers side.

I'm assuming that for an uno turbo, it's still the yellow wire for 12 volt illumination, right??

Just gonna be easier to tap into that loom than to attack the fusebox on the otherside of the car.

I think the wires are the same throughout. Just get a multimeter out and have a play - best way to find what you want, rather than relyin on the haynes wiring diagram

is there an already existant ground i could use!? or where should i put one and how do i make it safe

also how do i go about connecting it tot he battery?

charlie

Theres loads of plain black wires around under the dash, all go to ground.

As for connecting to the battery, you may not actually have to connect it to the battery. If you source the brown wire near the stereo, thats a constant 12v supply - which you need to keep the tacho memory.

right. found a yellow wire, found a brown wire found black one too lol.
i need a wire for the memory that the orange connects to
wires go as Orange - LED memory:battery (brown???)
white to the lights or can that be put to the 12v source so its lit up all the time?!
red - switched + red (one behind mu HU which is labelled +12v)
black - earth (-)

theres a white wire in the pic, can i connect the white wire on the tacho to that white wire?

arghhh electronics are so confusing!!
