yeah so i took my car for a free break check this morning and well.... half of the rear passenger side break shoe is missing, which explains the squeeking noise..

on shop4parts they have 2 types of break shoes, ones £8.50 and the others £16.00, which one do i need? (details of car in sig)

i hear they are hard to fit but i'm not paying £70 the garage asked for as its just stupid, if i cant do it i think i might have to talk jamie into doing it for me :D

Thanks in advance,

Hi bulldog5046

I can tell you the difference is between the 2 sets of shoes is the auto adjuster mechanism.

I noticed my MK2 L reg has these later shoes.

Where as my older Unos all have these shoes.

Looking on my E-per – there are no shoes listed for my Uno  they are all greyed out.

Sorry I can’t confirm which type you need as I’m not sure when the shoes changed over – in less anyone else can confirm, the only way to be sure is either to e-mail Shop4 parts, or have a look (which can be tricky in its self).

Regards,
Louie.

Ryan,
Probably time to take a look at the rear brakes and match up to one of the pictures that Louie provided? You only need a wheelbrace, a jack, and a 12mm spanner (unusual size for FIAT)...

Put the handbrake on

Loosen the wheelbolts

Preferably use a trolley jack and a block of wood under the rear axle beam - otherwise use the car's own jack under the sill, placed on a firm surface and DON'T go underneath the car, OK? ;)

Remove wheel (with car raised)

Undo 2x 12mm-head bolts (one has a protruding pin that locates the wheel, the other is just a normal bolt

Release the handbrake

Remove the brake drum

Easy! :)
Removing the shoes (to take to your Halford's or wherever) is pretty easy. They're held on by a couple of spring-loaded 'washers' that have to be turned with a pair of pliers and popped off the pin. Then use a screwdriver to carefully pry the brake cylinder piston away from the shoe, so that the shoe can pull off forwards. You will also need to disconnect springs from the brake shoes - strong hands and pliers! You'll figure it out...

Cheers,
-Alex

jacked up my car this morning and i guess i have the first ones louie showed, on another note i found the squeeking wasnt the brake shoes! it was one of the springs rubbing, i gave it a good squeeze with the pliers and no more squeek w00t!
