I have one as well. The S is nowt to do with 5 doors, mines is 3 door. It's simply a trim level as far as I know.

Mine has been basically reliable until this weekend. If you're looking for cheap transport it's as good as any. If you're looking for a race car forget it.

Well, about the S thing againg. I got the "5 doors" information from my Fiat dealer so it doesn't have to be true.:) Well, until this day, I thought it had to do with the 5 doors.

This question has been covered before on the forum.

The "S" designation goes back to when a four speed box was the norm ( Uno 45 and Uno 45S ) the "S" indicating that the car was the supa-dupa version with a five speed box. Now that the five speed box is the norm, the "S" usually indicates a higher trim level.

Late 80's the seats were a bit better padded, a bit more sound proofing under the carpet.... yes, maybe a clock too... it's all a bit too long ago :)

i also have an IES 1108cc. the trim aint great, but i'll tell you this all my mates have big cars like rover 216 gti ( or is it gsi) and xr3i's and none of them can keep up with my bog standard we baby i took her up to 130mph and cacked myself when i dicovered my brake pipes burst (which was brown trousers fun) point is the dude says it aint that fast i gotta dissagree, acceleration total em pee aitch. its all good.

i have a 3dr 1994 uno 1.1ie.s. 5speed. the s stands for super and mines pretty nippy it does just short of 60mph in second and 80mph in third gear then goes slightly flat in 4th n 5th. got good acceleration but then again i have a performance exhaust and 2 k&n's under the bonnet.

As already covered Uno ranges had various trim levels.

You had the range with just numbers, and no letters at all - These were the basic 4 speed units,

  • Wind-up windows
  • No Temp gauge, just a high temp indicator
  • Non-opening rear windows (3 door cars)

You then had the 's' range, which were the next level up from the above range, the extra's were:

  • 5 speed gearbox
  • Rear opening windows (3 door cars),
  • Temperature gauge on the dash
  • Apparently softer padded seats, which I'm dubious about

The next range in sequence was the SX, these were the top of the range of standard Uno's (not inc the Uno Turbo), now the extra's with these were:

  • Floor centre console (inc gearstick surround),
  • Rev counter on the dash
  • Optional check panel on the dash
  • Electric windows
  • Better seats and trim.

I've not included the Uno Turbo, as this was a different car altogether, and doesn't fit in any part of the sequence here. Although arguably you could say the UT was the very top of the range Uno, in trim and performance level.
