Hi I am new to this forum and need help

I have become a proud owner of a Uno 45 fire 999cc 1990, the only problem is I dont know what petrol to put in it, do I use LRP(4 star) or unleaded. The petrol warning light keeps flashing, could someone help me before I run out of petrol, on removing the petrol cap the inside colour is red, does this mean LRP.

Just to add it has a carb. and is not injection.

Also although the engine has done 80000 mile the acceleration seems really poor is this normal, for the engine of this size.

Thanks for any help.

I expect the only sure way is to quote the engine serial number here.

But FWIW a 1990 Panda with the 999 FIRE uses either LRP or unleaded without adjustment, or problems with the valve seats.
I've come across that info somewhere, but can't remember where ATM. :(

Regarding performance - the UNO is a bit bigger and heavier than the Panda, and looking at

http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/performance/performance.aspx?model_id=354

reckons nearly 17 seconds to 60 :I

FWIW if the car's been standing about a long time, it may well benefit from being driven with a bit of enthusiasm, and also having decent (not supermarket) fuel.

If the performance doesn't improve, and you have the distributor which is driven off the cam-shaft, the vacuum advance unit fails B) which doesn't help much.
Also adjustment of the points (if your version has them) makes a big difference.

When you haven't got much power, every little bit helps :)

YMMV.

Original design criteria for the FIRE type engine was that it should be able to run on unleaded.

I recently because the owner of what i think is a "fire" uno. its 999cc from 1992... think it says fire on the registration. anyway.. the acceleration in 1st and second is good on mine (its done 65000) ... i can pull 40 from 1st to 2nd gear in about 6-8 seconds and then to get to 60 it takes 3rd about another 5-6 seconds... not bad for a 1L uno ... whats that... 11-14 seconds :) ... its when you get into higher gears that things are a bit slow. my 4th sitting at 40mph pulls but not much... even on the slightest hill at 40mph i need to switch back to 3rd. same with 5th at 50mph but when ur doing 50mph in 4th it really begins to pull and will take u upto 60 no prob... even higher if yo push it... and then when you do higher speeds in 5th that really begins to pull... i can get about 85-90 out of mine on a flat straight road... it cruises nicely at about 70mph tho.. just right :D

as for yor petrol problem... no idea... mines unleaded :)
