Hi! I'm Janet a lost newbie...
Just bought old Uno Fire 1990 & having problems with Dashboard lights not coming on & then, also (at the same time) the tail lights don't work. Seems to be connected as old owner fiddled with connections under dash on passenger side & I drove it home, at night, & worked until I switched the car off!

Been to 2 mechanics in our little one horse town & neither knows where to even start looking...

Please help!

Helloo :)
Welcome to FF

You've posted in the punto section, the Uno is a different car altogether
Copy your post into the UNO section, and the members there will help you :)

My guess is 1 of 2 things

1 - the ignition ISN't been fully turned off when the key is out - age and wear
2 - there is a perminant feed and shorting earth and it's keeping the dashboard on

unfortunately my post no8 just reinforces my point
i would suggest going to next town with 2 horses to be honest because local garages sound like hopeless rednecks
its a simple problem of a poor connection somewhere don't lose hope

opposite issue...,
the dash is permanently DEAD, and the tail lights too ; - }

certainly sounds like a poor earth,

if the seller had a fiddle / prod under dash to get them going.. then that's the best place to start looking,

if you ask nicely we can probably supply wiring diagrams for the car.. let us know exact model,

Common issue with the old Uno was the actual light switch, if you remove the switch i suspect you will find the connections/switch burnt and melted, was a modification at the time (flippin eck, how old am i !!!), repair and will be sorted.,

Good Luck

Which 1 horse town you from, ?

Hey. Are your gauges working and does the car idle without the choke? You should check your service fuse. Could just be a small thing.
