hello again!

i snapped the only key i had to lock and unlock my car my sister just went to a key cutter who told her that the code on the key isnt the right one and he cant cut it we tried to get the barrel out but it wont budge do you have any advice on how to get a key cut or how to get teh barrel out please

That’s really bad luck  !!!

I’m not sure if the FIAT parts can supply you with a new key  .

Perhaps try WD40 spray to free the barrel, but if it’s not a clean brake (bent inside the lock) it might be really difficult. If you can’t get the snapped key out, it may be easier to replace all the lock.

A member (Icestorm) has a full 3 door set for sale here in our classified section. https://www.fiatforum.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=832&sort=1&cat=4&page=1

If they are still for sale, it might be worth double-checking the key shown fits all locks as all my Unos have had 2 different keys. There is always the scrap yard, or e-bay too.

That reminds me I need to get a spare set of keys cut for my new MK1.

Regards,
Louie Bee.

i know :(

not having much luck with this car!!!
anyway the key aint snapped in the barrel
i tried to get the barrel out but i dont really know what im doing so buying a new barrel may make no difference lol

i'm a bit curious.... how much force did it take to snap it?

and on the subject of keys some of my locks are a bit stiff when puting the key in and removing it from the lock... whats best to use?
I used to use grease - but your key gets dirty each time you use the lock. I think you are supposed to use graphite  .

Angeloutkast,

What you do next largely depends on whether you can get the doors open - can you get in through the tailgate? Alternatively, there is a technique involving the strip under the front door window. I think I'd better not go into more detail than that ;)

Anyway, having got the door open, it's simple to remove the trim and remove the lock from the door. Then, it's pretty easy to get the barrel out - a locksmith should have no trouble. To take off the rotating balljoint-collar, a pin needs to be driven out with a small screwdriver, and there's a spring-loaded tab at the inside end that holds the barrel in place.

Cheers,
-Alex

i can get into the car cos luckily it wasnt locked when i snapped the key!!
the key was kind of bent when i got it and i guess it just gave way!
luckily the car wasnt locked and i have a driveway so its not actually on the street!
i cant get the barrel out tho my sister was broken into a few times and the driver door never locked with the key anyway you had to lock it from the inside then lock the passenger door with a key!
but ive looked in the manual and i dont seem to have the same in my car ie theres nothing (or doesnt look like nothing) is holding tthe barrel or connected to the barrel
if its nice tomorrow ill have another go!!
im glad all this is happening now tho at least when i get the logbook and insure it i can just have fun driving it hopefully nothing else major will happen!!!
and i was blonde but went back to my natural brunette about 3 months but i am still as dopey!!!!

right easy one this.you can get a key cut at your local fiat dealer.use the chassis number,or take the two parts of the key with you.the door lock is simple to remove.you could just put a second hand lock on[make sure it has keys].off memory, there is a big C clip holding the lock on.remove clip and lock will come away once rods removed.

lol got a key cut and it dont work!
cant even get the thing in the lock :bang:
the key looks the same as the snapped on seems to line up good but just wont go in the lock in the car
i dont know!!

first, have you tried the key in the other locks incase its a duff lock? if so,go back and get another cut free of charge[wrong cut of key].
