I’d say the speakers are right.

Not too sure about the red being +VE. It may go to a switched live, which isn’t really needed. The brown wire is the always live I use for both switched and non-switched live. Only trouble I get is the fuse pops if I have loud music and use the cig lighter.

About the ISO – if you don’t use one and cut off the head unit’s one the guarantee will probably be void (like mine is) – so I’d recommend hooking in the ISO.

I think the cable you linked too isn’t the one you need as the original FIAT connection is missing :confuses: - AH the second link is more like it. Maplin are cheaper ;)

Good luck!

ok dokey!

so if i just need to keep the iso on the stereo to keep the waranty then that can go lol cos the stereo is second hand only paid £15 for it!!
so i figure ill just wire it up and cut the iso thing off but ...... here it comes!
on the stereo i have:
red power (ignition key)
yellow memory (battery +ve)
black battery (earth -ve)
and a blue one for auto antenna which i dont need

then on car i have:
black wire
red wire
black/white wire joined to a brown wire

so am i right that
red on stereo goes to red on car (+?)
yellow on stereo goes to black on car
and black on stereo goes to black/white(brown) on car?

No one told her to disconnect the car battery first?

Welcome, btw :)
Good choice for first car, and from London - great stuff!

Re the insurance, you'll find insurance co.'s won't care if on the license type as such, as that's just the legal side. £500 does sound high for your age, but not for first car, no previous experience etc. I think the London postcode doesn't help though, especially as Islington is an area much more urban than Harrow or Watford!

There's a sticky car insurance thread somewhere I think - have a read. I posted a list of insurance co.'s that you could go through one by one to get quotes.

I like this thread - Found out that a virgin ISO adapter is only 4 quid! I was going to purchase an Autoleads one for £15-something. Thanks Louie (again!).

lol is that why my car wont start now?????!!

seriously it wont but im hoping its cos its raining lol
ill try tomorrow

anyways i connected it up well sort of......

i done the speakers and got the blck wire to black wire and aerial etc
but lol
you know the red and yellow was meant to go to the brown? well i didnt connect the yellow cos the brown isnt a split wire its just a single wire very thin i might add to so do i wrap the yellow and red toghter and poke them in the hole? wanted to check first in case i blew it

footnote the stereo didnt come on as i wired it lol hoping it a fuse but thats without the yellow maybe the yellowwill power it up? or have i just made a pigs ear of it?
lmao

oh yeah and you know i said up there ^^^ on a previous post it had a red wire in the car? well it dont lmao definetly a blonde day today the "red" wire was a loose front speaker wire lol i found i do have front speakers!!!!!!! anyway the wire was brown with the red showing thru i chased it back its definetly the speaker wire

actually the "brown" i connected to sorta felt like speaker wire is it suppose to?

lol what have i done?
:bang:

Surely somebody could pop their CD player out and write down what wires go where into the plugs then using the diagrams on the net of standard ISOs, label up the colours, I would but I don't have a uno....

ISO wires are standard

Ignore the colouring, only suitable for a lotus elise...

Hi again,

Not sure why your Uno won’t start  mine both start in the rain…

Any ways, the brown wire is rather thin – but thick enough to carry 10A.

The stereo will not power up till you get 12V on both its red and yellow wire, and a good fuse on the cig lighter line.

You’ll get there – don’t worry.

Oh yer, it don’t matter about disconnecting the battery to hook in the head unit – I‘ve never bothered.

Regards,

What about you touch the live though and then a metal part of the car?

I'd say it's good practise to disconnect battery first.

That 10A feed, how much can actually be run off it. Lol, ok, 10amps, but say I wanted to use that to power: stereo, cig lighter, dedicated/fixed phone charger, etc. Will I be doing overkill?

If so, feed from battery best option?
