General Hi all

Hi all, i'm new to here having just bought a 1996 fiat Uno 1.0l Fire today 12/12/13. I'm a Brit (Welshman) and have been living in Poland for the past 3 years. The car is o.k except for a few problems....

1/ Gearbox is noisy, possibly on its last legs!
2/ Front and rear wiper and washer don't work
3/ Speedo and mileage counter not working
4/ No rear demist
5/ No blowers
6/ Front right shock absorber needs replacing....

and that's what I've noticed so far in the dark...tomorrows another day!! I will keep you informed... the car cost me 850 Zlotych which is basically 170 pounds. The mot finishes in January and she's insured until April 2014 (insurance is transferred to the new owner from the previous owner.) Anyway thanks for reading this. Regards David.

hey there and welcome.
sounds like you have your work cut out but if thats all thats wrong with your car you are doing well
gearboxes can live making noises for ages. i wouldnt worry too much but if you fix the speedo then finding one too swap shouldnt be too hard. i think a panda item would be simular if not identical or swaping it for a cinq sporting gearbox (must be loads around poland). if u did that you would get shorter ratios

Thank you for the reply Oxide Hunter, well there are a lot of Fiats here in Poland no shortage of parts lol, an update of what else is wrong with the car... yet to fix!!!

1/Bad oil leak from filter (i think)
2/ Washer bottle needs replacing as it leaks
3/ Leak from water pump connection hose (i think)
4/ Possible worn drive shaft bushes and or gearbox mounting rubbers.
5/ Possible fault in starter motor or battery needs replacing as she turns over really slow then turns faster then starts, but not always! :-(
6/ Gear stick turns full circle possible linkage or a worn bush (if there is one?)
7/ I think tracking (toe in) needs sorting out as right side front wheel leaning outward a bit!
8/ I need a new ignition barrel as mine comes out when key is removed!!!! and that is why my blowers and rear demist and wipers wouldn't work, unless i turned the key back a fraction.... then hey presto!....they work!!!
9/ The wiper motor needs replacing as it's worn and makes a noise, but at least it's working as i had to use a wiper blade with my hand out of the window! not fun!!!

I think that's all! (It's enough!!! lol)
anyway, will keep all who are interested updated as i go along.

yikes! lots of jobs. but sounds like stuff which can be sorted one at a time as the weather allows.
a bit of oil may just be what your starter and wiper motors need. saved me lots or beer money that has.

hi all, an update.. problem with rear and front wiper and blower was ignition barrel is broken and comes out with the key when removing key, so, i have to start car then turn key a little to off position to get electrics to work!! anyway thats the least of the problems since last message on here...she's been to the garage twice and is still there until tomorrow Monday 3rd of February 2014. First visit she ha new cambelt fitted, oil filter and oil change, air filter and new plugs, and anti freeze changed. I bought a new battery also. Then two weeks ago the four brakes decided to lock and she stopped dead (lucky i was only crawling along in the snow!) and she wouldn't budge! and would only start then die after 1 minute running.So, back to the garage she went.The mechanics verdict...the gearbox is ok, but the drive shafts and gaitors were broken now fixed, the brakes and engine have been sorted out, the front right shock absorber was broken now fixed, starter motor has been replaced as it was dead. So, i was meant to get her back on Friday last. but just as the mechanic was going to bring it to my house, the wishbone bolt snapped! He fixed that, then, i was meant to get it on Saturday, then the hand brake cable snapped on him, again just as he was about to bring it to me! so i'm hoping that tomorrow i will have my baby back!!! Anyway, i also need a windscreen washer bottle as mine leaks, the ignition barrel, also my speedo cable is snapped! Does it ever end??? Anyway, enough of my woes! I will keep you all informed if your interested! David
