Hi, my speedo has started making a noise???
At first I thought it was the air vent at the side rattling, but then I noticed the speedo needle wobbling, it wobbles in tantem with the noise and it is quite loud.
Is this an easy fix to take out the clocks etc?????

Well, you´ll need a new speedometer shaft in the right length as they wear over the years.
It´s a bit tricky to loosen the sleeve nut on the gear.Use an ice-oil spray first.
Loosen the two Allen set screws on the instrument panel. Then tilt it over the bottom part. You can now pull back the ring that fixes the shaft to the speedometer. I´m not shure how the whole arrangement is set up on the right hand steered cars.
Good luck !

Thanks for that, is it a new speedo cable or just the shaft part you can buy to replace???

You can only buy it as a whole set. Over the years the rod eats itself into the shaft. The shaft wears and that´s the part that matters. You can save the rod for later, in case the new one breaks some day.

Had a quick look at this the other day, took the clocks out and the speedo cable was connected although it did come away really easy. It is quite loose, tried to reconnect it best I could and refitted it. It worked fine for about 20 yards and then just went back to how it was before! It has now stopped working altogether but it's still noisy!
Where can I get a new complete speedo cable from, had a look on ebay and local motor factors but cannot get one!!!!
Cheers

The first thing to try is to remove the inner cable and grease it.
Just remove the instrument panel, release the cable end fitting (collar slides back to release clips), and then carefully pull out the inner cable (no need to detach the fitting at the gearbox). You'll need to clean the cable with a rag as you go, and watch that you don't dirty your clothes with it.

Then apply some fresh grease (just ordinary lithium grease will do) as you put the cable back in, turning it slightly for the last centimetre to engage it with the transmission gear. Reattach to the speedometer and see how it goes.

Cheers, I'll give it another go before I buy one. It works every now and then, the other evening I was going between 20mph and 60mph and then it stopped working. It seems as though it has popped out and when I go over a pump it works???
