Sounds like it might be an earthing problem.

Yes, sounds like a bad earth somewhere. Have a look under the battery platform on the left hand side in the engine bay under the bonnet. There are a number of push on spade terminals that connect onto an earth strip there. Check for a bad connection to earth there.
