Been using the wifes Uno Selecta (1989) this week as my truck was in for cambelts etc.
Her car was behaving just great, then suddenly the problem started and just got more frequent.
When I turn the key to start, just a click. Starter motor I think...trouble is as it is an auto, I can't rock it in gear or push start.
Is there an easy way to remedy this, I notice there are 3 bolts holding it on, or is it a case of a new starter motor? Would a strip down help?
It just seems that it has come on a bit quick (200 miles)
I've checked the battery terminals, but like I say, just a click when I turn the key.
Thanks in advance.

1st aid that might work. Tap the little starter motor ON the starter motor with the wooden handle of a hammer. This might loosen it. This works for a while. In the meantime you should get a new (scrapped one) starter. Easy change. A fat red wire straight from the battery, and the 3 bolts.

Try this as well, before you get a new starter: Sometimes there might be necessary to ground the starter directly from the battery aswell. Wire with the same dimensions as the live wire.

Hi freemansmith,

Have you checked the connections to the starter motor too?

Regards,
Yes, I checked all was tight...I figured that if I was getting a click from the engine bay, then the solenoid was getting power.

Ah! A bit of percussive maintenance...I like that, I'll give it a try.

Ah... "solenoid" was the word for "starter motor on starter motor". Sorry, I´m Norwegian...

Right, I've checked it all out, pulled ignition wire off the solenoid and tested, it is giving 12.5volts, so that side of the wiring from the key to the wire is ok.

Put a large screwdriver across the posts on the solenoid and the stater motor spins a treat, so the motor is good.

Spiked the wire down to the stater motor from the solenoid and it only tested at 4-6 volts on turning the key....Solenoid has had it!

Where online can I order a used replacement, or at a push a new one.
