Currently have a 45s running 1242 8v FIRE engine with larger carb,

My friend has recently bought a written of Punto GT3 complete running car.

As far as i'm aware i will have mounting holes in the body that will allow engine to be bolted in with Uno Lampredi mounts.

Will it be possible to use the Punto GT gearbox, possibly with a swap of the selector mech?

Is there any way of using my current driveshafts or even the Punto GT ones or will i have to find Lampredi Uno or UT driveshafts & hubs etc?

Exhaust and wiring etc is not a problem can easily be fabricated.

Many Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben,
The engine and box will mount with Uno Turbo style mounts to any shell.

or an easy gear change conversion you will want a gearstick, rods and selector lever (top of gearbox) from a UT. You probably won't have holes in your bulkhead for the rods to go through though, so you might have to drill them.

Driveshafts are too long for the UT and will either have to be shortened or UT driveshafts (including shaft behind engine and half shafts in gearbox) found. Either way, they will have to go into UT (also diesel) hubs, as these have different size splines.

Otherwise should be fine.

Thanks for the help Lewey, you mention diesel hubs. In my yard behind our flat is the landlords old Citivan think its a 1.7 diesel that has sat there for years, is there anything useable on it? Will i be able to use diesel driveshafts and hubs? Will diesel mounts be the same?

Certainly possible that the citivan hubs are good. Basically if it has the C510 gearbox, it has the right hubs and I would expect it to have a variation of the gearbox due to the diesel lump. You could also potentially use it's driveshafts and halfshafts. On the diesel and later 1372 petrol models they used shafts that go straight into the gearbox, without the use of half shafts like the UT. Not as strong or balanced, but might do you.

my uno turbo uses a gt3 centre and offside driveshaft they do fit
Can you clarify for Ben and I which shafts can fit? I know they have the same flanges and splines, etc, but my memory was that all the parts are longer than the UT. The half shafts are only a little bit longer, so can be squeezed in? Perhaps you have lowered suspension that is helping in this regard?

Ben, if yours is Late E reg or newer shell you should have the hole in the bulk head. Mine did when I converted to top change.

Lewey didn't you us a brava gear shift setup on an UT box? Would save ben trying to get the steering rack cover plate with the pivot point, and not have to make up rose jointed rods, still to be left with slop.

I am using a punto gt centre and drivers side driveshaft, when I fitted them they seemed to be almost identical to the uno turbo driveshafts
