Anyone know if I have to take the gearbox off to replace the driver
gear for the speedo cable?

The one thats in there is OK but the spec of the cable has changed
and requires a different gear.

Any advice please, I really need to be getting an MOT, like yesterday!

If it's anything like the Panda 'box (and it's almost certain to be) the speedo drive gear is an integral part of the differential half-case.

You need either a better FIAT dealer who holds the stock you need, rather than what he can be bothered to sell you, or a trip to a breakers' yard.

Thanks for the reply John H.

My local friendly (not) Fiat dealer in Chadwell Heath, London, told me the manufacturer of the flexishaft had changed and therefore the spec was different and required the new gear to be fitted.

Is this info strictly incorrect?

All academic now anyway cos I just modified the new cable and got the MOT today.

Truth is I don't have the parts CD, but I'd be amazed if you had to pull the gearbox to bits because of a change of parts supplier..

Surely the parts supplier makes things to manufacturers specification.

There are at least 2 different gearboxes for a UNO, depending on engine..

Perhaps Pete would know the correct part number given the VIN.

Glad it's sorted, anyway:)
