Just about to change the gearbox oil as the change is stiff and a struggle to find the correct gear sometimes however the Fiat ZC90 oil seems a nightmare to get and expensive. All the other brands are the extreme pressure stuff. I have read this is isn't recommended. Has anyone used this with no problems or can they recommend an alternative?

Hi there

I got Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 that seems to be compatible with the Fiat ZC90. It made the gearbox changes smoother and I am quite happy with it; as you say the Fiat/Tutela is a nightmare to find.
 
Don't put EP gear oil in an 84 uno gearbox!! it will wat the soft metal so I'm told - crunch crunch... :eek:

There are non EP oil out there - just ask at a motor factors (y) wrong grade non EP will be better then right grade with EP IMO.
 
I can buy Tutela from my local Fiat dealer, can't you?

You can use a full synthetic oil, just not a mineral GL4/5
 
I probably can get it from dealer but nearest is Preston and I refuse to use them due to poor service on a few occasions, next nearest is St Helens. TBH I was hoping there would be a cheaper alternative. I have ordered the ZC90 online.
 
All sorted. Put ZC90 in and its much better. Think the stuff I took out was EP stuff as it stunk of additives. I will probably try the castrol next time I change it.
 
Am i being silly? but im sure i was told UNO's have Nylon (plastic) gears not cast or steel, Might wanna watch what you chuck in it

I've seen Nylon gear units in commercial stuff :shrug:
But im sure you lot will know better
