Hi peeps, the gaiter that sits underneath the gearstick (the one that covers the gear stick linkage from the elements) on my mk1 Uno is falling off!! It has always been a bit tatty since I got the car anyhow - I was just wondering if anyone had one going spare - particularly the guys that have been scrapping their unos?
If not, does anyone have a suggestion as to something i could bodge in their as a replacement?

Mucho thanks,

Marko

Hi Marko,
I know this is no help, but I have never seen an un-split Mk1 gearchange lower boot!

I have tried taping them together with cloth tape (Duck tape, Duct tape, whatever it's called! 'Duck' is a brand). That works, as long as you clean the rubber really thoroughly with meths first.

It would probably be wise to take out the spring clip that holds together the joint at the end of the lever. Grease it well and reassemble.

In my experience, the space under the middle of the car is pretty 'dead' as far as thrown-up water, dirt, etc. is concerned (take a look under the floor when you've been driving in the rain - is it still dry - mine is!) So, I don't think that boot has to be perfectly sealed - just enough to hold it together and shield that lever joint a bit from dust and dirt.

Hey!

Uno_94 - I've had a look on ebay but its such a bizarre part i don't think its likely that one will come up - well at least not with an entire uno attached!

Alex - thanks for the advice (as always) - I shall have a look at exactly how bad it is and see if i can repair it with tape. Good to hear though that it is in a dead zone and shouldn't matter too much!

Cheers guys!

Marko
