Hi All,

I fitted a central locking kit today.

Without giving too much away (I hope ;))

This is the kit for a 3 door.

This the N/S motor fitted.

It works lovely. :cool:______________ :)______________ (y)

:) Next phase is to work out what the 2 spare wires do (no instructions as was fitted to Spam0r’s Uno), and the spare wires on my alarm (again no instructions as fitted to my first Uno), and hopefully hook them together for remote locking.

Then I will probably disable the lock barrels, but leave them in place so as not to draw attention of thieves, and to confuse them should they tamper with my locks again  .

-
Should I fit the alarm in the Boot? perhaps unconventional, but effective :)

Nice job done there.

mine has central locking to all 4 doors and its also wired to the alarm remote, so I can open the car via remote. Really cool if you wanna show off, but really good in the rain when you need to get in/out of the car quickly.

btw now I want to wire the boot to the central locking so I dont have to keep on un/locking to get it open!!

Anyone have any tips on how to go about doin it!???

(y) Thanks for the compliment Drinu.

I'm not sure remote unlocking takes longer – LOL the fob used to work from my pocket for just alarm. Maybe with standard Uno SX fob you need to point it at the rear view mirror’s pickup .

hi louie,

well the alarm I have is an aftermarket one! I said it was faster because if it was raining you would have to close the door..find the key..insert in the keyhole and turn it. With the alarm I just close the door and press the button on the alarm. I dont have to point the alarm at the car and I can be at quite a distance. What I usually do for home or school is I park in my usual parking spot, go in and then lock it via remote from there!

Louie, nice job.
I thought that the motor unit had to be mounted nearer vertical, the lock lever swings in an arc, but you've obviously got it sorted.

Re: the extra wires - they are actually the same as the wires to the switches in the lock motor units. I'm guessing they are brown and white? When you connect them to ground, you should find that the doors lock/unlock. The outputs of most car alarms follow the same connect-to-ground standard.

Re: the tailgate lock - it's a bit of a bugger - you can't motorise the locking (at least on the Mk1) because the barrel has to rotate to engage/disengage the lock, and it can only do that with the key in. The Tipo has some improved mechanism, so it might just be worth checking the Mk2 Uno to see if the lock has any lever that you can move without the key being in?

I plan to fit an electric solenoid (called a 'Trunk Opener' in the shop where I work) to pull the release cable fitted to the striker plate (near the bumper) of Turbo and 70 models).

In other words, it might not be worth the trouble of installing the release cable and lever from a 70/Turbo - that's a seats out, carpet-out job, and the cables tend to snap off at the lever end! I would just fit the striker plate - it has a moving pin instead of the standard fixed pin - and then hunt down one of those solenoid releases - try Halfords? Couldn't find one on their website... so maybe a 'car security' specialist will be able to advise. Cost should be 10-15 quid by my estimate (I don't have a pound-sign on my keyboard, hence 'quid' :))

That way, the lock stays permanently locked (you could remove the release button if concerned about security) and you could operate the release with the extra remote fob button that many car alarms provide for the purpose. (Read: make sure you buy a car alarm with boot release option!)

Otherwise, it's a pain having to remember to go and lock the tailgate button every time you leave the car... I reckon, if you see an Uno parked in the street, half the time the owner will have left the tailgate unlocked
