In NZ most 1989 models and even a few 1990 models are actually unsold 'series-1' models (manufactured in 1988).
The instrument panel requires one additional wire to make the tachometer work. The wiring in the car may have it, but probably not; if you need to add it, it is simply a wire to the 'green wire' side of the ignition coil. On the back of the instrument cluster, there are three nut terminals - one has 12v, one is ground, and one is the signal wire. The wire you are adding is the signal wire.
You might also need to add another wire to make the choke light work; I can't remember whether the 60s had that feature (the 60 did not). The choke cable has the switch built into it, so you'll need to change that too.
It would be an interesting little project to graft the econometer into the 70SL cluster in place of the 'tyre pressure' indication.
Don't forget to indulge in a spot of odometer tampering to ensure the odometer reads the actual distance covered, converting from miles to kilometres if necessary
(A number of Unos that I've seen in NZ came with a MPH speedo/odometer in miles!) If you switch to kilometres it does confuse the WOF people a little when they record the mileage, as I don't think the system can cope with a vehicle switching from miles to kilometres part-way through its life. With cars this old, hardly an issue, but I like to keep the distance accurate anyway.
