I am hoping that the later model 1990 70SL instrument panel will fit in to my 88 60s without too much trouble. I want to get rid of the horrible clock and put in the 70SL instrument panel with the rev counter.

Does anyone see any issues with this.

In NZ most 1989 models and even a few 1990 models are actually unsold 'series-1' models (manufactured in 1988).

The instrument panel requires one additional wire to make the tachometer work. The wiring in the car may have it, but probably not; if you need to add it, it is simply a wire to the 'green wire' side of the ignition coil. On the back of the instrument cluster, there are three nut terminals - one has 12v, one is ground, and one is the signal wire. The wire you are adding is the signal wire.

You might also need to add another wire to make the choke light work; I can't remember whether the 60s had that feature (the 60 did not). The choke cable has the switch built into it, so you'll need to change that too.

It would be an interesting little project to graft the econometer into the 70SL cluster in place of the 'tyre pressure' indication.

Don't forget to indulge in a spot of odometer tampering to ensure the odometer reads the actual distance covered, converting from miles to kilometres if necessary :) (A number of Unos that I've seen in NZ came with a MPH speedo/odometer in miles!) If you switch to kilometres it does confuse the WOF people a little when they record the mileage, as I don't think the system can cope with a vehicle switching from miles to kilometres part-way through its life. With cars this old, hardly an issue, but I like to keep the distance accurate anyway.

Yes all Mk Is here!
Mk II is too new, too flash for me.

Swopped it over this morning, choke light works, tach does not work, so will have to get some green wire. There was no wire wired in on the 70SL, it must have been part of the loom and included in one of the 4 push on connectors.

The horrible clock is gone! Sadly the clock in the 70SL, the one in the rear view mirror pod is no good. I guess I will find one one day.

Odometers (in km on both) on original was 221564,
replacement one 221054, so not much tampering needed!!

Econometer, yes that would be an idea. Also would need to put a resistor in the line, or something, as the reading on the econometer is off the scale. It works but never runs in green. It is above the range, so light throttle openings have it just into the top yellow band. Was that red once?

I had a clunking in the top hat, nothing to lose so sprayed some WD 40 in there.
Maybe the clunk has gone away!!

I decided to swap the Rev counter into the original instrument panel.

Less wires to change for the warning lights, eg hi beam indicator did not work with the 70 instrument panel, also meant I could leave the econometer in there.

Needed a bit of filing and scraping to remove tags and pins etc to get the change over. Also swopped the odometer to as the plastic front had the wrong adjuster holes.

Lesson not so easy in the end bit of fiddling around but it looks ok now.
Stuff that looks the same isnt:confused:

Now to add a wire or two to get the tacho going.:D

Can someone confirm the function of the 3 pickup points (nuts) on the rear of the Rev counter.

It looks like
1 - top one is the signal
2 - middle one is 12v
3 bottom one is ground.

I don't want to mess it up, I would like someone for correct me or confirm I am right.
