Uno Sunroof Seal Please Help!

I went to order Sunroof seal (for tilt and slide sunroof) for my 89 Uno this morning only to find that the local Fiat Dealer closed down. I called a dealer in the next county to try and order it. My car's Chassis number came up as invalid, but that's what's on the car!. After a few phone calls discribing the car they found the right one and it was ordered. Cost almost 100 euro but I'm willing to pay that. Got a phone call 20 minutes later saying the seal has been discontinued and no longer in stock. I don't know what to do now.

Surely it can't be discontinued, aren't they still making Unos in Brasil?. I have seen a 94 Uno with the same type Sunroof as mine. I know it is an 11 year old car but surely Fiat stock parts for cars over ten years.Does anyone know of any specialist Fiat parts company I could contact or what else I could try next.

Any help greatly appriecated.

Re: Uno Sunroof Seal Please Help!

Thanks for your input. Don't think a scrap yard will help as very few had a tilt and slip type plus at this stage the seals will all be in bad shape.

Interparts, do they specialise in Fiat parts or a bit of everything.

Thanks.

Re: Uno Sunroof Seal Please Help!

Gave those guys at Interpart a call a few days ago. It turns out that Fiat don't stock this part anymore but they are trying to get it from some where else. Hopefully they will find one, fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help.

If you get lucky, could you let the board know the part number and the price? I'd like to replace mine, but Fiat told me it was about 43 pounds plus vat if they could get hold of it. They reckoned it was no longer stocked :-(

Arrow Uno Sunroofs

Hi All - I'm a bit late, but

What’s wrong with the seal Is it split, or just less springy

On my later Mk2 non-tilt N turn sunroof, the close clip was broken when I got her.
I fitted a new clip and still it leaked.
I then removed the glass, cleaned the seal and oiled it with Baby lotion lol. I then popped one core on 10A flex under the seal, all the way round till they met… fitted the glass… Next time it rained – No leak!!

However, as the summer temperatures rose, the clip eventually gave way, and snapped under the extra pressure.

I left it nearly closed with a rag jammed in for about a year. Recently I got another new clip ( about 20 from local FIAT dealer) removed the wire, and refitted. Now there is a define click at close position – and NO LEAK .
Hopefully it will survive this summer.

BTW the closer for a Fiesta fits Mk2 Uno. I wonder if there is any Non FIAT parts that are the same – namely the seal your after lol.

Kind Regards,

Re: Uno Sunroof Seal Please Help!

I think with age, the seal becomes less springy and acquires flat spots. This seems to cause leaks. Also, the mk1 and mk2 Uno sunroofs were rather different, so I don't think the seals would swap.

I went to some sunroof fitting specialists to see if they could supply a seal for my mk1 tilt and slide sunroof. They couldn't, and informed me that there are many, many different types of seals. They also said that the sunroofs factory fitted to cars are ordered in bulk by each car manufacturer, and each design is unique to that manufacturers model. Only so many are made, along with so many spares, so after a time the spares supplies dry up. Hence Fiat possibly not being able to supply one.

Also Louie Bee, I wouldn't advise using baby oil on any rubber seals. Baby oil rots rubber - look at the warnings about this on condom packets! Vaseline also rots rubber too. Better to use a silicone based rubber conditioner like Amoural instead as this is kinder to rubber parts.

Yer, I’d imagined they’re pretty different. I only intended to let you all know about the wire trick that might be worth a try - till a new seal becomes avail lol. Its no fun wiping drips from your neck each on each bend when its raining lol.

Thanks 1986Uno45S, I was told baby oil is a cheep alternative to Back 2 Black some years ago. Thinking about it more (Method for cleaning real-to-real tape machines springs to mind – don’t use isopropyl on rubber pinch rollers springs to mind) – I figure your right.

Good Job I only used it on this seal – not like on all trim like the guy suggested. He worked selling used cars – so I guess air a trick of the trade to look out for.

Regards All,

Re: Uno Sunroof Seal Please Help!

My seal doesn't actually leak. It did when I got the car but I was able to seal where it was leaking. Now the rust is bubbling around the edges and will be out through soon so I got to take out the sunroof to fix it. The old seal is prerished so I was thinking I would replace it. Would a rubber conditioner bring it back to life?.
