Hi all

I'm trying to obtain the reg plate F355TDE which according to the RAC car data check is currently on a Fiat Uno 45 1988.

I would be willing to buy the car to get the plate but would just buy the plate if required!

I know this is a long shot but thought you guys might be able to help!

Cheers

I can't help, living this far, but here's hope that you'll find it!
Good luck!

FESSTDE?
Eh? I dont understand what it is supposed to mean. . .

Have you tried contacting the DVLA?

The registration number is F355TDE.

The DVLA won't tell me who owns the car unfortunately!

Sorry Ucof, just realised what you meant.......

I've just bought an F355 and my initials are TDE!!!

Cheers

Blimey! Nice purchase!

I understand now - good luck with the hunt, PLEASE let us know if you ever find it!

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but if a numberplate like that no longer is on a valid car, can you request it?

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I will let you know if I do find it and list the car if I do buy it.

It's not looking promising if it's not been taxed since 2000. From what I've read reg plates on scrapped cars are lost 'forever'. I guess the dvla may resurrect them one day though.

a73uk - out of interest, how did you find out whether it's been taxed??

I just checked on the DVLA tax/SORN website, you can see if your old cars (or parents old cars) are still around too!

http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

Its highly doubtful `your` one is still alive I`m afraid.

If you know a friendly copper he might be able to point you in the direction of the last owner, I think some HPI checks also give you the current or last owners name & address.

One glimmer of hope may be if the car has been off the road/ untaxed (i.e. in storage somewhere) prior to 1998 when SORN came in. After 1998 all existing cars that were taxed at some point after this date, whether on road or not have to be either taxed or SORNED and a recent liability date will be shown up on the DVLA website. However, if the car has been untaxed since 1998 or earlier but still exists, then it is NOT a requirement for it to be SORNED every year as it pre-dates the requirements of SORN.

An example of this is my 1974 Ford Cortina that last saw the road in 1990. According to the DVLA, the date of liability for my car is September 1990, which to most people would suggest it has been scrapped and is long gone. It is, however, sitting comfortably in my lock-up garage and I have the old style registration document for it. It is all legal and would only need a tax disc and MOT to go back on the road. Once it is taxed again though it will be liable for all the SORN regulation if I did decide to take it off road once more.

So just maybe this little red Uno is sitting in storage somewhere since 1998 and there MAY be a chance it can be found again. To be honest I think that's going to be unlikely but you never know!

Its true, but up untill recently (maybe 2 or 3 years, whenever SORN started) people didnt bother doing the paperwork when they scrapped cars, I`ve got about 50 log books from cars I`ve personally stripped & scrapped that still come up on the DVLA website. One of my Daimlers comes up as untaxed since 97, but its still `alive` too.

Theres a very slim chance this Uno may still exist, but I wouldnt hold my breath!
