Mr. Ucof - please keep to the subject in question ;)

Mr. Calvin - first of all, welcome to the forum. Please feel free to look around and if you have any questions or can't find the information you seek then ask away. Secondly, please refrain from 'txt spk' style writing. Not everyone understands it and you're also more likely to get a helpful response if you write in clear English.

With regards to your query, if your engine is leaking oil and smoking when driven hard then you have problems that need to be addressed before you can even think of modifying it. It may be something simple such as the rocker cover and/ or distributor gasket that needs to be replaced to stop the leaks. You may be unlucky and have a oilway leaking out of the headgasket As for your engine smoking you could have worn valves and/ or bores, which indicates that your engine could be in a rather sorry state. If you're lucky it may be something simple like a blocked breather pipe causing the smoking. It is difficult to be certain without seeing/ hearing the engine.

Finally, the 999cc engine is not particularly popular for tuning and there aren't many aftermarket tuning parts available for it. The inlet manifold isn't able to take a twin choke carburettor without substantial modification and performance exhaust manifolds would probably need to be custom made, which won't be cheap. For much less money you are better off finding a replacement 1242cc FIRE engine and swapping that in place of your worn 999cc lump. You will get an instant power and torque upgrade and you will be able to use your existing ancilleries including carburettor and intake manifold. Your carburettor may need re-jetting to suit the bigger engine though. Lastly, if I remember rightly there is a twin choke version of the Weber 32TLF carburettor that was available in south Africa. This may be the answer to your carburettor query, though as it wasn't available in many countries, including the UK, I don't have any more details of this.

Hope this helps.

Chas

My Unos have the lampredi engine.

When I bought them, one of them there was oil all over the timing cover end of the engine. It ws dripping, rotted the fan belt. Looked real bad.

It was the cam seal a real easy and cheap job to do.
All perfect now.

Mine use a bit of oil, but they do have over 200000km on them.
