So its a massive no then is it!

Well I made 1 good NS headlight out of 2 today, one had a dull reflector, the other had broken indicator slides... what a job... the adjuster screws on 1 of them arent designed to come out, the one with the broken outer body also had a broken load adjuster knob, but I couldnt work out how to get it out, so I`ve ended up leaving it as it is.

Despite having the same numbers on each component part, for some reason the reflector sits higher in the outer body now, which means the DRL strip was a ba***rd to get sitting right...

Still, all done now, cleaned the spare indicators up too, so I`ll put the lot in at some point in the next week.

I put them on.. 1 shifted slightly when I drove it, so I`m going to have to take the glass off in situ again to realign it.

Its not as overpowering as it looks in the pics, I cant seem to get an accurate picture in this light, so it just looks like a massive glow...

flexi white LED strips off ebay MEP, about £4.70 a pair inc p&p.

I`ve used them in rear lights as well.

In fact I`ve used a variety of LED`s all over all my cars & even @ home using 12v halogen desk light base transformers! (y)

I tell you what Joolzy, its bloody hard getting a good picture of them, I`ve taken quite a few pictures this evening with different camera settings & at different angles but pretty much all of them dazzle the camera lens & make it look... well.. dazzling.

They arent in person though....

Probably the most accurate pictures are the 2 close ups of the light in the ones below...

Must say, im not a fan of DLRs.

:(

Agreed - the Docklands Light Railway trains were a HOPELESS way to get across to Greenwich! They are so slow even when they're running, and with no driver at the front to take charge, the moment something goes wrong, the whole lot grinds to a halt. There was a half-hour delay at Mudchute on the single day that I was trying to use a DLR train, so it's a big fat FAIL from me :)

Meanwhile, those DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) look great - minimal power consumption, modest price, and enhanced visibility. I like the subtle effect achieved by having the LEDs right at the edge of the light.

Personally, I think I'd select a single warm-white Luxeon LED - probably quite expensive but a more natural look. I just hate that blue-ish colour (and this is a personal thing, remember) as shown on that rear number plate light (y)

Bear in mind that most Unos between 1986 and - well, 1996 (so all Unos after 1986, then) will have the wonderful dim-dip system, which is a DRL of sorts (a reduced-power headlight for visibility rather than illuminating the road ahead, comes on with the key and goes off with the key).

I`ve never been on the Docklands light railway so I cant comment ;)

I have experimented with different LEDs & these were the `whitest` so far, the low current consumption was my main reason for using LED`s, I recon I could leave my sidelights on for a week & she`d still have enoguh battery to start!

I have had quite a few going wrong too, especially the panels I did for the rear lights (2x 36 LED panels soldered together), but only 1 sides gone.

I want to make up my own LED/SMD light boards for the rear lights.

The numberplate one was a bit of an afterthought, I had spare LED 501 & bunged it in, thing is its got narrow angle LED`s so it only focuses in the middle, I was thinking about using a couple of festoon LED`s in the underside of the boot handle...

Heres my 501 sidelight experiment:

Hmmmm
Seeing your latest shots
I reckon it doesn't look half bad that (y)

Was also thinking of the LEDs for the sidelights in the back of mine as well myself
BUT I thought of making a pattern out of them
somehting suitably MaD and RaT
Like an Iron Cross.....

Where do you source your LEDs
Are they all from FLeaBay?

Cheers Joolz,

If you do all the side light circuit, including the dash bulbs, you`ll reduce the system load from about 30w down to about 2w as well as reducing heat (anyone noticed how normal bulbs melt the sidelight bulb holders over time?), reducing strain of the charging circuit, switches, bulb holders, fusebox etc.

Its not a lot, but every little helps!

I was also thinking about making custom boards to fit the rear lights, maybe doing 2 seperate circuits on the rear sidelight boards, either 2 rows round the edge for the tail lamp & all the centres connected o the brake circuit, or alternate lines, like 1 vertical row tail light, 2 rows brake, 1 tail etc.
