Struck a deal for a relatively low miles 1242 8V FIRE from a Punto
Getting Engine+Inlet manifold+SPI+front loom+ECU
NOT bothering with alternator, or starter, or exhaust
Not bothering with exhaust manifold as it has a close coupled CAT that will not fit the Uno

Question is.....
Anything else I should get from the Punto to make the transplant as easy as possible...?

Ta in advance for any advice guys

I think that you have all that you need, but having never carried out this conversion I can't say for sure. I'm also not sure how easy/ difficult it is to hook up the Punto SPi and ECU to the Uno wiring loom. You can run the 1242 off the standard Uno SPi set up by the way.

One thing I would suggest is to try and get the downpipe from a mk1 Punto 60 as this may make it easier to hook it up to the Uno exhaust system. Earlier Puntos had a standard downpipe with the cat under the car. The 1242 block is slightly taller than the 1108/ 999 blocks so you may have clearance problems with the 999cc system, whereas the 1242 downpipe will not have that problem. Not sure how easy it would be to connect up with the rest of the Uno system but I guess you can but try!

Anyway, sounds like a cool little project - keep us posted!

Ta for the advice Chas

Have to say the 'project' has now gone into 'simmering on the back burner' mode

The guy I was buying the engine from has now come back saying he has pulled it out of the car.

I wanted to see it in the Punto running, but he was busy last week and wouldn't offer a time when I could go over and see it.....

Now he has pulled the engine out he says I can go over any day after 12:30 to pay £140 for what to me is now an UNKNOWN motor...

NoT HaPPY
Told him I'm going to leave it

I'd rather blow that £140 on another crashed/MOT Failure RUNNING Punto
So I know its running with no issues before I pull out its GuTs

After all that's what I originally did when I bought a short MOT'd 5dr'89 Uno for £50, ran it for a few weeks, before it gave up it's motor to transplant into the 3dr'93 I'm currently running . . . . . .

So back to looking for a CHeaP RuNNiNG 1242 Punto . . .

OR a 1242 CinQ or SeiC?

There's a 1.2 Punto engine going here for £80:

Doesn't come with all the ancillaries though.

I think you're right in going for a complete car instead, though the deal you were offered in post #1 sounded good as it came with all the other parts. But without knowing if the engine was any good it would still be a bit of a gamble. Unless the seller could offer a guarantee?

Plenty of options out there so keep at it!

Hmmmmmmm
SeLLer says
got a video of it and compression test was 12.8 barrs across all 4 cylinders.
Its just that I'm put off by the fact I said I could go over ANYTIME, to suit him, to see it runing in the car and strike a deal
He seemed more than a little reluctant with excuses about being 'busy'
Then as soon as the engine is pulled out of the shell I can go round any day I want after 12-30.....
My GuT tells me to be suspicious.....
OR be paying LeSS money for an UNKNOWN motor

Agreed, be suspicious.
