Looks like a good buy Ucof :) Do you plan to sell your other one?

You must have one of the newest Unos in England? 1995? I remember that the Punto definitely existed in November 1994.

I, too, was strangely excited to see the wheelcovers with the round holes.

Hope you can nurse the cooling system back to good health without the need to replace the head gasket - and of course I'm looking forward to pictures of that beautiful shining red paint ;) Rather than the dull pink that Jo0lz loves so much.

What's wrong with the 'Start' decals anyway  You'll certainly have to polish it up if you take those decals off...

Yup, I'm pretty sure they did also. As did the Cinquecentos. Ucof's 'new' car is a very late registered Uno, must be one of the last to be registered? Though saying that I do recall (if I remember correctly) seeing a Uno on a 'P' plate, though I might be getting it mixed up with something else. Too many Unos over the years tends to make one's mind go funny :spin:

:nutter:

You two are weird! Wheel trims - ugh :yuck: Then again, I was chatting with Jai and talking about how good looking the original silver steel wheels with small round bolt cover are. These were the type fitted to the 'S' model mk1 Unos in the 1980's. Not only that but they are incredibly light, more so than alloys. Understated and sleeper - Chas likes! :yum:

I too was a bit concerned about the cooling system bubbling away in the expansion tank and the 'poo coloured' coolant evident in the system. Hopefully it is just a worn coolant cap causing the bubbling and the 'poo' water is just the sign of a few years of neglect. Hopefully a good flush through will sort out the sludge and a new cap and coolant will have it running efficiently again. If the worst comes to the worst, at least the FIRE engines are one of the easiest to do a head gasket on (y)

And yes, I would prefer to see that matt pink paint cut back and polished to a nice gleaming red. I like the traditional rat look but that means matt/ satin black, camouflage or primer coloured paintwork. Matt pink just doesn't seem to have the same rat effect ;)

Good luck with the Uno Ucof and keep posting updates of its progress. Oh, and smart move on getting a car with a 'private' plate on a model that you wanted. I'm not normally one to think much of private plates, but to get one that is personal to you and already attached to a car you want - nice one!

Rawill - the econometer is an after market one that fits on the vacuum advance pipe. I might just leave it off to be honest, not sure yet though. :)

Alex - I've already arranged to sell the current one to a nearby friend for the same price that I bought the newer one for. This is without adoubt one of the newest Uno's in the UK. Reckon there is anyway to find out, I could get in touch with the DVLA I suppose. I hate the dull pink too - it's horrible! I hope there's some t-cut in the shed somewhere, if not, I'll just have to buy some. What's wrong with the "Start" decals?? have you seen them!?! They're the most hideous monstroscity I have ever had the misfortune to set my eyes upon. Hair dryer and scraper is the way forwards there.

A73Uk - yep, both my Unos are N plates, the previous being "N241" and this one being "N330". One of the owners had the car for 12 years and had it regularly serviced. :)

Chas - I'm not one for overly private plates either ("T0553R" or "PEN15" for example!). I was just going to change my name to "Mr N241 LGD" instead, but this new plate already has the correct name on it. :D

Oh FFS! :(

Garage just rang me with good news and bad news...

Good news - car passed on emissions! :D
Bad news - fuel tank is rotten and as such it has failed! :(

They are looking to get me a replacement, and thankfully, it's in enough time for me to find one too.

bah..
I want to have a look and tell them that they are mistaken and it's fine. :(

edit - this ceems to be the cheapest I can find - http://www.sparefinder.net/parts.asp?m=1&id=2430

YeaH agree with that
Was the vERy FIRST thing that got removed from FucT FiaT......though I sSTiLL have the trace of them in my DuLL paintwork....;)

NNNNNNooooooooo!!!!
SCRaPER NOoooooooooo!!!!!!
YEs warm them up with hairdryer to soften the glue
BEST thing to use pick them off is your finger nails . . . they won't damage the paint!
THEN get any remnants of the glue off with meths on a soft cotton rag
[methylated spirit... the purple liquid alcoholic tramps drink]

As meths is what signwriters use to clean loads of surfaces without damaging them before they apply vinyl stickers like the one you will have just removed

I saw a To553R in an Audi TT on the M53 yesterday with the rego plate 'T11NED' with the bottoms of the two 'number ones' of the 'eleven' tweaked to look like eitherside of a U

Now that rego plate could have been kinda cool if it was not on a totally bog standard looking Audi TT......
But a road legal pro-street dragster
Say a FIAT Topolino.......:yum:

Didnt mean scraper, meant fingernails ;)
I used petrol as opposed to meths last time on my original Uno to get the glue off.

That car does look awesome :D

Um, I hope you don't want the tank back that I got off your dad's Uno! It won't be any good as it's for the carburettor model and doesn't have the correct aperture at the top to take the electric fuel pump. And just to make it worse, the carburettor Unos seemed to all use a plastic tank so they never went rusty. Not that I'm trying to rub salt into wounds or anything like that ;)

I was just going to change my name to "Mr N241 LGD" instead, but this new plate already has the correct name on it. :D

:ROFLMAO:

:p

Took my SPI tank to the scrap yard :bang:

Price is good so not really worth messing about with a second hand one anyroad :).

Make sure your handbrake works when you get it back as there is a little bracket on the tank they need to swap too that the cable runs through

I think my Uno Turbo has a steel fuel tank - disappointing
I like the plastic fuel tanks.

I suspect it is actually cheaper to make a steel fuel tank than a plastic one (the plastic has to be quite thick, blow-moulded, and high-grade). I'm guessing that is the reason that FIAT switched back to steel, rather than any particular technical reason. My Alfa 164s have huge 70-litre plastic tanks (getting to the point where a full tank doubles the value of the car).

Anyway that is good news about the emissions. You'll have this Uno running like a top in no time. Oh, that's another definition for the word 'top'... ;)

Joolz - will try to remember about the meths, and thanks for the links, I've sent the guy a message (its the same vendor for both auctions)

Chas - nah, don't want them back, they are yours! Was aware they wouldn't fit anyway :)

Louie - D'oh! about the fuel tank - ah well :) Will try to remember about the little bracket.

Alex - I'd be tempted to think that they went back to metal ones as they were stronger and less likely to shatter. I'll remember that definition too ;)

I still don't understand how the tank issue wasn't spotted back in february, and then, a month later, fails for having a rusted fuel tank!! :(
Grrrrrrr.

sparefinder website appears to be a con :(

Doesn't let you pay for anything, instead leads you to the paid sms subscription service so that they can charge you to find a part you need.

edit - just bought a "new" 2nd hand one (the guy on the phone says that the previous owner must have just replaced it, before sadly crashing his Uno) from http://www.bradgatemotors.co.uk/ for a total of £41.13.
I'm very impressed with that :)

Tank arrives tomorrow.
then I have to pay the garage fitting fee.
Shouldn't be more than £60 in total though.

Oh crud.. forgot about the MOT itself. :(

Looking about £100 for this one :(

Should take them less than an hour to fit the new tank mate. . .
Tell them the trick is to slacken the handbrake cables right off
Makes it a lot easier to get the tank in and out then

Also tell them not to forget to swap over the handbrake cable guide bracket
that directs the nearside cable around the side f the tank
I forgot that when I did my tank swap myself and it created "CHaFinG" of one of the hand brake cables that got picked up on my MOT:bang:

Wonder if your new tank will come complete with sender+pump?
