Hi All,

I am buying some brake parts from https://www.shop4parts.co.uk and I am not sure which handbrake cables I need to order. There are either Handbrake Cable – RH / RH (Hook Fixing) or Handbrake Cable – LH / RH (Ring Fixing). To give a little help see attached new “Shoe Control Levers” as purchased from FIAT dealer.

These levers, so I am lead to believe are the parts that seize and cause the all too common poor handbrake response (annual MOT failure).

Places like Charlie Browns fit new shoes every time they try and free the mild steal rivet part (instead of replacing them), I once paid Charlie Browns over £90 to fix up my handbrake (poor nearside response) to pass the MOT, they fitted new shoes and probably little other than a handbrake adjustment. The guy back at the MOT station passed the car with a warning note that the handbrake could be much better charley browns used the excuse that new shoes need time to ware in, but they never actually fixed the handbrake problem. The following year I paid the tester £40 to sort it and a spot of welding.

After the bleed screw problems (another thread), I am also replacing the cylinders and shoes as strongly advised by one or two other FF members. I have found some at a reasonable price, but it will probably mean new pipes, so ill get a pro to fit them.

I also got a sticky OS calliper, but ill try more wire brush on them first.

Regards,
Louie Bee.

Well...if it helps, they look identical to the ones on the Cinq/Sei (and they cause the same problems too!!)

I think they twist the other way around though...

As for the cables...im afraid I havent got a clue, might it not just be an idea to go into a motor factors and ask? or ring Shop4parts and ask them?
