Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum/community, so I present myself as a enthusiast of the Fiat Uno cars :D as I own one of the 1988 italian made Unos since a few years ago.

As time went by, I lost the timing belt cover (plastic) that has the marks and a schematic of the timing belt points (i guess)... This days, I got my Uno into an overhaul process and everything is going fine for now. We have a problem: I dont know how to refit the timing belt according to timing marks. I've been looking for shematics, photos or something that helps me out to get this done...but I have some doubts.. I was hoping one of you guys could share with me the right way to reinsert the timing belt and make it work again smoothly... I've been reading the Hayne's repair manual for Fiat Uno and i got some data on pages 73-79 and 164-165 about this marks.... but if I could find some more data about fitting accuratelly the timing belt + pistons+flywheel mark + distributor sequence I'll be completely thanked for life...

Can any of you guys help me out to find the light at the end of the tunnel? :D

Thanks in advance...

Welcome to the forum :)

I have no idea how to help or what to suggest though! If you wait, someone clever will be along shortly. :D

The turbo uses a similar procedure to the n/a 1116/ 1301 engines when refitting the timing belt. You don't need the timing belt cover but you do need the timing belt backing plate as it is this that has the camshaft pulley alignment mark on it.

Rotate the crankshaft to TDC using the flywheel timing marks. These are visible under the plastic bung on top of the gearbox bellhousing - some models also have a mark on the crankshaft pulley and the backing plate. Now you check the camshaft pulley, which should have a mark on the pulley that aligns with a mark on the camshaft sprocket backing plate. If it is 180 degress out rotate the crankshaft by one full turn again - if both sets of marks are aligned then the belt is now ready to be changed. With the crankshaft at TDC and the camshaft sprocket aligned with the backing plate mark you have the camshaft timing set and can replace the belt. Obviously after refitting the belt you need to double check the timing marks to make sure it is still timed correctly.

A full guide to refitting the cambelt can be found in the Haynes workshop manual. It's on page 62-63 in the older (orange) mk1 only Haynes manual.

Good luck and welcome to the forum (y)

Hi guys,

I'm finding the way with the information 1986Uno45S gave me...So far so good...but I've realized that the metal cover is missing too  so I'm lost when trying to find the mark of the central shaft sproket which as I see has to do with the distributor and the oil pump

I'm introducing this image with a red circular mark on which sprocket i'm having doubts:

I know that one has a mark too, but since the metal cover is lost too, maybe you can help me out to find it...

Thanks in advance,
