Hi all,

Hopefully you uno lads are more friendly and can help me out with your knowledge. As per my other thread, in 'other fiats' i am putting UT engine and box in my 128, I have sourced an engine and g/box, but i need to work out drive shafts and hubs. Its difficult task in aus as we never saw these little beauties down here.

I need to know if I can use Uno Turbo drive shafts in fiat 128. I know this has been covered a couple of times but answers are vague to what I have found so far.

Are 70sx drive shafts the same as Uno Turbo? Did they use the same 5 speed box?

Best,

~Hugh.

No, 70sxie shafts are like 128 driveshafts. Uno turbo shafts are unique in the Uno range. They are like an x19 5 speed. The shafts are big, and use big CV joints like a Croma.

So, how many different shafts does the Uno range have. I ask as eventually I will be putting a 1600 Tipo motor in an Uno road car, it will have an 84 Uno 5 speed G/box and D/shafts etc, at least initially. We will see how much enthusiasm and money I have to go further. So it will not be getting heaps from a standing start, mostly just extra for overtaking and up hills, but mostly for the fun of doing it.

And SteveNZ, are you in NZ or Melbourne!

To the best of my knowledge there are three types of driveshaft for the Uno. There are the two with tripod joints (one small and one slightly larger joint). And then there are the Turbo shafts which have a spline that goes into the gearbox and CV joints at both ends of the shaft.

For a 128 conversion Alex might be the best source of info as he has restored a 128 and worked with many Unos. But the safest course might be to use the 128 gearbox and drive shafts with the UT engine (although I dont know how well the 128 box will cope with the UT engine).

yep those were the ones (the larger CV croma stlye ones) i was offered, as they were suppost to be for x1/9 project. Not sure how much chance I would have making those work, i dont think the 128 units will be up to the task. Thanks.
