Hi, i can get my hands on a 1500mpi ie uno with the turbo interior/ tailgate/ dials and a few more turbo bits for scrap value. Ive seen that these have about 75 horsepower and its not really enough for my needs to turn it into a track car. I was hoping of turboing it or putting a turbo engine in and maybe getting around 130bhp. As i dont know anything about these cars or engines could anyone tell me whether its worth it and what would be the best way to get this power?
Could do with knowing very soon as he will be scrapping it if im not interested, thanks

also its a german import if that makes any difference?

Sounds like you want to buy this:

;)

To get 130bhp fit a standard UT engine and up the boost. It's that easy (y) 150bhp is relatively easy to be had with few mods, though above this figure expect to start spending money and changing parts.

You will, however, need ALL the mechanical parts and running gear from a UT to make the conversion work properly. The UT engine is substantially reworked from the normally aspirated 1300 engine and you can't just bolt up a turbo to an na 1500 lump and expect it to work.

The main factor in your project is the shell. If it's rust free then go for it. If it's rotting you'll be better off finding a better shell or a genuine turbo in the first place.

Good luck :)

cheers, well thats the exact car i can get for scrap value, tbh the bodywork isnt the best but it comes with all the spare panels, it needs a small amount of welding and the front subframe is rotten so a new one of them is needed. I was hoping to do it much cheaper than basically getting the whole front end of a turbo. Has anyone turboed the 1.5? i could lower the compression ratio and get the pistons machined down slightly to lower it even more but how much bhp will the standard rods and pistons take?
