Next MaJoR problem.....
Fuel tank [plastic] from Mk 1 does not fit the Mk2 Spi
As the Mk2 uses a metal tank with the fuel pump inside it...DoH!
So desperately need to find a Mk2 metal tank.......PRoNtO!

Do you mean that the mk1 fuel tank won't physically fit a mk2 Uno, or that you can't run the carb'ed engine with an SPi tank? As the mk1 FIRE had the fuel pump on the cylinder head, all you need to do is make the pick up pipe in the mk2 tank bypass the in tank pump. I'm sure you could simply remove the pump and bridge the hoses so that all will work fine with the mechanical pump.

Re-reading the posts I'm even more confused. Why do you need a mk2 metal fuel tank when you already have a mk2? Does it not already have one?

The MK2 tank in the car is busted; was that way when I bought the car.
I thought the plastic tank from the Mark1 would be straight swap
It isn't
Mark2 metal tank has the fuel pump as part of the sender within the tank
So a simple Mark1 plastic tank will physically fit . . . BUT it would not work for the SPi sytem

Anyway...
Found a donor for a replacement tank at Cleveland Street Car Breakers in Darwen [just south of Blackburn] Postcode BB3 1HQ

I strongly approve of the moustaches! :D

Nice to know what you made it!
What are you going to do with the Uno now?

It ran sweet all the way there and all the way back
Here is a pic of it at the finish....

Me + Uno in front of the Lighthouse at Cabo Da Roca

The Uno ran so well and was such a great drive that our next idea is to keep it and do a second charity banger rally all the way to Split in Croatia.......and back.....May 2010

I'm really sorry Jo0lz - I accidentally edited your post #31 when I meant to quote it  :bang:

I have restored it to its original text and picture and just wanted to let you know that I didn't mean to edit it in any way.

Congratulations are due to you (y)
I think you join an elite club of members who have undertaken a rally in their Uno?

However - "it ran sweet all the way there and all the way back" - testament to your abilities, but too easy ;)

I like your idea of tackling another rally now that Uno has one success under its belt... perhaps it can collect stickers like medals? :)

Cheers,
-Alex

No worries Alex, no harm done
When I said the Uno ran sweet there and and back it was indeed a testament to this great car and the fact I spent many hours fettling it...[though there is still lots of fun to be had yet...(y)]
The week before the run was rather MaNiC!!!! :D
We set off on Tuesday 25th Aug at 11:15pm....
when we expected to have left by 8pm
Just after 8pm I was dropping the engine and gearbox oil out of the Uno to solve oil leaks; particularly from the gearbox; from what I suspected was the incorrect use of fully synthetic oil ;)
Luckily the correct mineral oil seems to have stopped the gearbox leaks . . .
The replacement engine had only just gone in on Thursday 20th August
The new 185/60/13 tyres on old scabby X1/9 alloys only got fitted on the Tuesday afternoon that we left . . . so this combined with the lowering springs meant that the tyres rub the arches when we bottom out over BiG bumps :p
This tyre/arch rubbing and the centre exhaust joint starting to leak [just a little] are the only things that manifested themselves during the 2500+ miles trip

As for the sticker collection Sarah, my wife, has already made me rename the car :D
As she thought the neighbours would not appreciate a car parked in our street with a BIG WHITE "FUCT" written on each side... ;)
So it has now been re-stickered as "FiXT"....

Anyway needless to say the FUCT[FiXT]FIAT Uno story shall continue.....
For those that are interested have a seach on Facebook and you can find "FUCT FIAT" as a "person" on there and become a 'friend' of the car.....
