General My New Mk1 Uno Turbo

looking good - i like your UT its in a rare colour.

i used to have those seats i think
are they cobra monacos?
to be honest i hated them - they were faaarrr to wide for my frame, and had a flat bottom so they hurt my arse.

im about to put a passenger bucket seat into my racer, could you advise me on how to make a seat mount exactly like yours - my drivers side subframe is the same as your subframe.

nice thread (y)

The seats are Momo.
Quite honestly a mate of mine modified some mounts i got off another friend so they are a bit of a mongrel mount really. They use the original runners though so if/when i come to sell it i can just pull them out and re-fit the original seats.

As for the colour, there arent too many like this, hence why i want to keep it looking original on the extreior!
needs a lot more love and attention though before i am totally happy with it

Wow, good progress!

Are you planning on making it to Taupo or any other event?

btw the seats are Momo T frame. It would be pretty simple to make a copy of the OMP seat mount.

June 19th there is a track day at taupo, would love to get down to that. All depends on if i get my new roof on i guess as it is leaking a little more than first thought now we have more and more rain!

With the new job i get much better days off so track days & Motorkhana's etc are actually a possiblity!

Wow, just realised i havent updated this in quite some time!
well since last being on here the Uno now has new suspension in her, just replaced the RC gasket and Cam cover gasket (in the hope of retaining a little bit of the oil i put in her!) new wheels to replaced the 4 buckled ones it came on, also managed to source a new roof and tons of spares whish will be done through-out the rest of the year.

dirty old gasket all broken up:

I have a track day in Sept that i want to get too so hopefully have it prepped up for that, once i have done that i will then have a base to work from for future upgrades!

Mate, your car looks pretty mint I must say! When I was younger I had always wanted to get hold of one of those but they were like gold dust. Insurance on it changed my mind back then opted for Panda instead lol. Keep up the good work, nice touch with the Punto Mk2 Alloys, unusual choice but oddly emough seems to work ! (y)

well have a good day off dodging the rain.
decided to change the bumper as i have a better one sat waiting to go on
Also while at Repco (NZ's Halfrauds, only actually helpful & useful!) buying some axle stands i thought i might get some caliper paint and spruce the old calipers up a bit.
while cleaning them down they seem to be pretty new calipers which was a surprise

Coming together nicely (y) What's left to do?

I like the new coilovers - how did you get those?

The wheels on my Punto were exactly like that, until I painted them in Shadow Chrome :)

EDIT: AHA! I've just spied the Thomson Motors sticker on the rear window. I now realise this is probably the car that my friends Jim and Hazel Cameron once owned, long ago. It lived in this area for a long time and I remember it being in very tidy condition for many years. I first saw it 12 years ago

Hey Alex,

I bought the car from Karikari down near Tauranga, the previous owners are part (or were part) of Fiat Club Waikato and were quite happy to know she was going to a good home, not sure they realised my intentions, however after the work that has gone into the car i think they will still be pleased!

The coilovers were made by a friend of mine down in Howick, Chris Alexander @ SuspensionTech. It was originally a tad firm at the rear as it would hit a bump and bounce, he's changed all that though now and it runs a dream.

Left to do:

Slight darken of alloys
Outer CV Boots for wof
Certify the mods (seats/suspension)
Punto GT brake upgrade possibly (i have access to these quite cheaply)
New turbo all machined ready to go on if i want
FMIC like i had on my Mk2
Stainless exhaust
New roof and re-spray
New Decals after re-spray

I want her back up to looking like new, going to take a while but i enjoy it and have no intention of getting rid any time soon!

it snatches a little bit going to second and will stick in fifth after a decent drive on the motorway, otherwise it isnt too bad.
Found last night why it is showing so much bloody boost, one of the hoses has come off and it is going mental

Hey im in auckland too! Awesome cars eh. they are getting soo rare now in nz. noticed for aages there has basically only been one on trademe.
are u planning on making yours fast or just restoring it?

good luck anway

wow not updated this in a while.
Since been done last the arches have been rolled and the car has been part dismantled and cleaned and inspected for rust.
Not much around really, a little bit on the drivers side arch and a bit behind the rear bumper but otherwise pretty clean!

Went on a track day yesterday, running totally stock apart from seats and suspension.
had a stonking day, didnt burn ANY oil whatsoever and hammered her all day, did 190km's (120miles roughly) and used the tank of fuel, never let it drop below 4500rpm
