General My New Mk1 Uno Turbo

General My New Mk1 Uno Turbo

i havent lowered it yet, it will be going to my mate at SuspenTech on wednesday and getting left with him to play around with it untiln he is happy it is set up right.
the roof will be getting done by a guy we use at work, he'll spray the front guards and bonnet too while he is at it, oh and yes Steve, the rear dent too.

I see JJHepburn is selling some turbo parts too on Trademe.... i'm keen for some bits if you read this!

Well she is away at SuspensionTech as we speak, replacing all the bushes (including the front ARB) with Poly bushes so should help with the rest of the set up.
Found a great website that has all kinds of different mods to use on the Uno (i'll post the link up later when i'm home) but it mentions a Strada Gearbox on the Uno for better handling of Torque should you do huge engine mods. I wont be doing massive mods but thought i'd mention it for anyone that is!

Got my bonnet yesterday too, been sat at our suppliers brand spanking new for 15 years! haha

i think the strada gearbox-mention would have been in the context of non-turbo unos which came out with a 127-type gearbox.

Your early-mk1 turbo already has a strada-type gearbox as i recall, and the later mk1 and mk2 gearbox is even better.

Whoops - this is my 3,000th post

LOL, thanks :D

Also I don't do many one-line posts, so I could probably fill a book by now - but much of it would be boring and repetitive

Whoops, talk about a 'thread hijack'. Let's hope we have some more updates soon... I want to see all these new panels painted up and the suspension rebuild results! ;)

i'm hoping to have it back by next weekend, Chris has been ill so hasnt done anything on the suspension yet
I'll flick up some pics asap tho.

Picked up all new lights for the front too last week, going to be almopst a full rebuild by the time i have finished, only be the chassis and a couple of body panels original...

Alex have you heard about the new Fiat Club Waikato forum?
http://www.fiatcarclub.co.nz/forum/

Lowered the front 60mm and the rear 45mm.
So much quieter now that there is no knocking from the shocks, only thing you can hear now is the creaking and rattling inside and the whine from the 'Box.
kinda rubs the front mudflaps too now when you corner a little aggressively

Bilstein Inserts and from what he said Nissan Pulsar front springs in the rear and VW springs in the front that he has modified to fit.
Cracking job

Looking good (y) I think it's even a bit lower at the front than mine... Mine was about a 40mm drop initially but settled a further 10mm over time.

Now you just need to do some tidying work at the front end - smarten-up that bumper a bit (a hot-air gun might help to straighten it, and I like the bottom part painted body-colour) and do something about the headlight that has the insulation tape :p

Speaking of hot-air guns, with a bit of help from one you can peel the foglight housing off the lens, clean the lens (fill any holes/cracks with sealant) and reassemble, with grey polyurethane roofing sealant. Grey silicone will do as well. Grey looks better than black...

todays job (should it stop raining) is to fit the new headlamps/indicators and bumper i have sat at home.
then it will be onto fitting the new front seats and working on the engine, might even be lucky and manage to keep the oil in the engine soon!

It's not raining down here :)
At least, not while I'm inside. I'm sure once I'm outside, it will start within half an hour.

I know what you mean about 'dreary' - it just rains every single day for weeks on end, makes it difficult to use any power tools, and rain blows into my garage with the gusts of wind.

FIAT Club event at Te Mata tomorrow - I shall turn up to help, rather than to take part - my Uno Turbo still waits patiently for some paint repairs after its sill welding.

is it just me, or has the auckland weather been really ****e for building unos ... in a week i took my old red uno and the white one i fixed apart and rebuilt it totally, so now it has a perfect body , apart from one or two white panels on a red car,
but amazingly the engine and carb has just ticked over a amazing 100,000k which is not bad for a '86 mk 1 engine :)

from the origional car i also used cv,s, radiator, cluch, gearbox, 2 wheels. drivers door, bonnet, roof lining, dash, seats, carpet and loads of others ... apart from little rip in drivers seat the interior is like new :)

Yeah i noticed you didnt take your Uno.
Who was the guy in the Blue Uno though?

Instead, I got to stand on a hill with 'jjhepburn', who wisely brought a tent. Now you're scaring me - I didn't see you there, or at least I didn't THINK I saw you there. You travelled down with Lee, Rob, and Blair? I feel really silly now. Sometime soon I'll connect the pieces of the puzzle

The blue Uno - that's Bevan Gray. Running a 1301cc engine with twin Weber downdrafts. The suspension is very stiff, with customised front struts to accept cut-down 128 springs.

Sounds familiar here. We seem to be switching between lovely warm weather and horrible windy/rainy weather at the moment, normally the horrible arrives for the weekend as it did just gone. I sold my long term Strada Abarth project yesterday and thinking about my next project but the weather has always been a big factor for as I only own a single garage so might literally take a rain check for a while.

Well! A combination of congratulations and condolences must be due

Do you have a link to a thread that shows the Strada Abarth project?

May I humbly nominate my favourite car - the Alfa Romeo 164 - as a contender for your next project...! :p Cheap as chips in England and you won't have any rust repairs to do.

I think I might have to take a rest from spending so much time tinkering with cars. I do like the Alfa 164 but it would have to be the V6 to get me interested!

would anyone happen to have a Uno Haynes manual for such a beautiful machine?
I had one but gave it away with my old Mk2

I've got one for the Uno, can't remember if it covers the Turbo. You're a bit far away from me though!

well i went and tried out my seats for size last night.
sitting nice and low in there now instead of the standard uno height.
Plenty of headroom now for a helmet, even with the sunroof in there.
They will be mounted properly today and then hopefully drivable by tonight

well thanks to Stacey my arse now stays firmly planted in the seat when i go into a corner, no more slipping around on old Fiat seats!
here is the new look interior set up (well at least in the front, havent had chance to do anything about the rear seats yet)

using the original mounting positions:

Now if the weather stays like it is then the rear will get striped tonight and made ready for the new roof to be fitted next week to help preserve the seats and carpet!
as you can see, i have a rag on the passenger seat ready for clearing the windscreen due to the moisture inside!
