Hey guys, how low can I go on standard shocks?, I've heard -30mm from some places, but I can get -60mm springs for the same price. If I need aftermarket shocks as well what would be the cheapest to look out for?
hi mate,
as i found out recently i dropped my standard uno 60mm on 15s
rubbed like a bitch so had to take them off. you will have to do work on the arches i think no matter how far you drop it.
and with the shocks, it would be best to get lower and stiffer ones or even go to fully adjustable ones but they are not cheap.
if you want more practical go for 35mm.
search around for good shock prices, but a whole new set of sprongs and shocks(good ones) isnt going to be too cheap.
Maybe it's different on the Mk1, but I spoke to someone who, lowered his 60mm on 13s and he needed no arch work. I guess I'm going to have to wait 'til I have more money and get shocks and springs together.
mine was lowered 60mm g-max springs on 15's n had no archwork done, did scrape a bit with 5 people in, g-max gas shocks were used i think, bought it with them on
before that one i had an uno lowered either 30-35mm on standard shocks with standard 14" fiat alloys
tbh if your buying springs you may as well go for the shocks aswell, or at least buy new budget (standard) shocks to go with the new springs.
also, -60mm is extremely bumpy, and depending on your wheel size i can imagine scraping over the humps. go for 30mm to 40mm drop if your its for every day use
From that picture -30/35 seems a lot lower than I thought it would, I think I'm gonna aim around that height. I'll save up for some springs and get some shocks at a later date (assuming I get this bloody alternator belt on and don't get so pissed off I end up getting rid of the car). Those eBay listing, I noticed the only say 'shock' and not 'shocks', is that the price for one or a pair?
didnt notice that, sorry, im guessing its for 1 shock
if your only planing for 30/35mm then standard ones should be ok, never had a problem with mine. check your local motor factors, some uprated shocks are relatively cheap
