Hi!

I own a Fiat Uno 45 IE (999cc) 1990 model. Lately i've got some problems with my car so i've started to look at the temperature meter a bit more often.

I've noticed that the temperature meter goes above the 90 degree normal, by one or two "ticks". Im worried about overheating of the engine. The Cooling fan works normally, and starts to operate when the meter goes above 90 degrees (though it stops when the meter is still above 90 degrees)

I've also noticed that there's a leak of cooling fluid coming from somewhere beneath the engine. But the leak STOPS if the fluid has leaked 1 CM ABOVE the Minimum mark of the coolant tank. After that the cooling fluids dont leak anymore.

Where could the problem be? Could the waterpump be broken or leaking?
i've checked all the hoses coming from the coolant tank and going in to the engine, they all seem to be DRY.

Could the temperature meter simply be off by a few degrees, since cooling fan starts to operate and stops?

Or could the thermostat be broken, (worked nice in winter -20 degrees etc, warmed nicely to 90 degrees)?

Any help is appreciated, i would love to pinpoint the problem so that i dont have to guess where the problem is. Thanks in advance!

I have a similar problem (UNO 70SL 1301ccm, 1986). When turn off engine (temp. about 80-90 deg C), it start to increase level of coolant in expansion tank, and start leaking on expansion tank cap. If coolant is 1-3 cm below min marker coolant doesn't leak.

theres a chance your thermostate is stuck and isnt letting water threw the cooling system, you can pick one up for 15£ real easy to fix. if you do get one make sure u gt the gasket with it.

How ya doing. I have a 1990 uno 45 999cc and have a small water leak. Tiny in fact but when i had the car up on ramp last week fitting new brake shoe's i had a general look around and i spoted weep coming from rubber water pipe that join's on to steel pipe beside exhaust manifold. It is a worn jubble clip or a worn pipe behind jubble clip i think. i didnt get chance to fix yet but at least i no were water is coming from. i am not a qualified mechanic but i do my best. Hope this can help you. Oh and i cant spell so excuss the bad spelling.

Hi! I just started restoration of my Fiat Uno. I have a problem my engine heat indicator shows that temperature is going over 90 degrees. There is no leaking of cooling fluid everything is OK. When I turn it on and let it work for a 1 hour the temperature is stable but it is showing that it is half way between 90 and Full temperature its NOT MOVING left or right. When it moves a little bit to right fan turns on and cool it down in normal way.

I dont know what the problem is, did anyone had problem with this?

Hi, :)

what year / engine in your Uno..??

could be the temp. sensor /sender ,
the gauge,

or the thermostat for the cooling water.
