Hi,

I owned my recent UNO 1100 (130k km) for a few months now and was wondering about the suspension. I have owned a new UNO some ten years back and couldn't remember if my current issues existed on the new UNO as well. Anyway...

Is the suspension on UNO meant to be hard ?.....I feel every bump on the road and even ones that are not there. I know that UNO has a solid rear axle which contributes to this but I have changed the rear shocks but still it hits the ground hard when going over slight rough surface.:(

There is also an annoying squeak emanating from the rear of the car, not sure from where, but is there every time I hit a bump. I suspect it is just the body flexing as a result of the solid rear axle. Would love to get rid of that squeak...

If I could fix the ride on my UNO it would be the perfect run-around.
Any ideas ?:slayer:

I managed to find the source of that nasty squeak.

It was the pipe to the fuel tank that was rubbing against the body.

It looks like the guy that did the paint work on the car didn't bother to put back the rubber ring around the fuel cap area. So I put some silicon around the fuel pipe and so far it seems to have worked.(y)

Lol easy fix!

AS for ride comfort........they are small light cars so they will be suseptable to bumps and potholes

I haven't seen springs from a Uno in person , but the pics from my service manual indicate that the Uno has rising rate springs front and rear.

Rising rate springs increase their stiffness as they are compressed.

In smooth road conditions with this spring you will get a very smooth ride and as you start to push the suspension it gets firmer.

It is a compromise often found in road cars to try and maximize comfort , but not at the same time having super soft springs that bottom out on when you run over an ant.

If you notice that the rear of your car has a lower ride hight than normal (may have to compare another Uno that rides smoothly) then its odds on that the springs have sagged.

They sag first in the softest part of the spring , which is the section that gives you the smooth ride.

Replace the springs or put up with it.

gW:)
