Does the inside door handle open the door?

If so, then take the latch off the door (two Philips screws) so that the lock mechanism comes out inside the door. Then check it for seized parts. In particular, it may be seized in the 'locked' position so that the outside handle has no effect. The inside handle is supposed to override (unlock) the mechanism.

If you can't get the door open, you have to try and release the latch from inside the door. From the latch, there are two pins that operate in arcs, controlled by the lock mechanism. The top pin must be moved upwards to release the latch.

Again, the lock mechanism may be seized, so watch what happens when you pull the inside handle (part of the mechanism swings across) and maybe give it a bit of help with a screwdriver so as to allow the inside handle to open the door.

It is kinda hard to put into words, but usually the problems are due to seized/stuck mechanisms. The other possible problem is to have a broken pin off the latch, but then the door usually won't latch closed.

The door opens from inside ,can see the mechanism move on both levers ,only the outside handle doesn't open it, I will try to take it out as you say and inspect.

That's a relief! Much easier to take things apart if the door's open :)

Yes, my bet is that part of the locking mechanism will be seized. If there is rust evident, a bit of wirebrushing followed by WD40 (to free it up) and lithium grease (for future protection) should sort it out. The worst case is that you need another lock mechanism, which should be pretty easy to find at anywhere that dismantles Unos.

I have taken the lock mechanism out ,but the outside opener doesn't seem to work ,only when i help the mechanism arm to move far enough.,gotta get a new one i think, but no one here has them

Or maybe you can just bend something a bit... Big slip-jaw grips and giant screwdrivers come in handy.

On the 5-dr Uno, the handles I've seen have an adjustable screw/locknut that sets the pressure applied to the lock mechanism. I guess you would have noticed this - or perhaps you have a 3-dr?

I haven't seen it but I will have a closer look, I will take a pic of the lock, Its a five door

by the way, Can I switch the door key hole (lock cylinder) with the one on the right side? ,as the previous owner destroyed the left one (drivers side) I must go around the car all the time to unlock.

I just did this last week, but it's fiddly. You have to remove the lock barrel from the handle push-button. To do this, drive out the pin that secures the freely-rotating collar that has the plastic link rod attached. You need something like a 1.5mm jeweller's screwdriver for this, and a suitable work surface to support the handle and allow the pin to come out. The freely-rotating collars are NOT interchangeable and are quite brittle, so be very careful and don't try to prise the link rod off - it's too easy to snap the ball off.

Then remove the E-clip that secures the push-button in the handle - quite easy. The button pops out with its large spring.

Look for a slot in the plastic push-button housing. There is a spring-loaded tab, like a lock tumbler, lurking within this slot. Push the tab in, and then you can pull the lock barrel out. It helps if you have the key in the lock, as it gives you something to pull the barrel out with. But it isn't essential to have the key in (e.g. for a salvaged lock that you may not have the key for).

The tumblers in the Uno lock barrel are tiny and appear to be retained by a bar that's pressed into place and not removable. Therefore, there's little hope of changing tumblers/re-keying locks.

I put the good lock in the driver's door and then fitted a rear door handle to the front door.

Cheers,
-Alex
