Help please, just done something really stupid.
I tried (in order to get some injector cleaner into the tank) to use a piece of plastic hose to hold open the antisyphon valve at the filler neck. When I tried to pull it out it caught on the lip and ripped off. About 3 inches of the hose has dropped into the filler hose to the tank. Car is running OK - do you think it will do any harm, is there a filter at input to the tank? Is it worth trying to get the assembly off from bottom of the tank?, I dont think there is an intermediate joint in the plastic filler hose to tank and Haynes doesnt say how to remove the body end.
(The offending item is the thinner end from one of those cheap syphons with a red bulb and two pieces of plastic hose for filling and sucking)
Car is 1997 UNO 1.0 IE
Thanks for looking.

Dont understand why u needed to hold the anti-syphon valve open, thats to stop pipes going into the tank, your additive would just pour in surely...? On balance I would ignore it, if you start to get running problems related to this they will probably be of the fuel starvation type, hesitating, wont rev properly, poor starting etc. Unless thats why you were putting the additive in of course. I hope the plastic doesnt start to break down, if it doesnt you may well get away with it, but if you fancy getting your hands dirty take the tank off after draining it and see how you can get at the thing thats in there.

Yesthat was why I was trying to put the cleaner in, it just runs out again if the valve is closed. Car has been cutting out occasionally for a split second.
Done the usuall plugs, HT leads etc.

OK well the Uno boys will certainly be more helpful on the original problem, hope you get away with the foreign body in the tank though. Sorry cant be of much help.

It’s not an anti syphon valve really – without opening it, nothing will pass, but a hose pipe would open it and allow you to syphon IMO – have had the same issue of the expensive injector cleaner not going into the tank. Think I held the flap open with a screwdriver.

As you have the 1.0 IE, even if the bit of pipe made it into the tank, as the electric fuel pump is in the tank with a very fine wide ended gauze around it’s inlet, I’m 99% sure it won’t cause a blockage or any other issue.

Drive on :)
