hi,

i have a problem. my 1116cc fiat uno 60s ( E Reg ) is playing up. Generally it starts ok, but sometimes when i pull up at lights, it will idle for a bit, then cut out on me for no reason. Sometimes after it has done this it will not restart for a couple of minutes. This also happens after i switch it off, go to the shops and come out again. not being an uno expert i dont know where to start.

any help would be appreciated. if i cant get it to work properly again - i will have to sell my little car for spares :-( it only has 93k on the clock

This quote from the "honest john" website (no relation) may be relevant:

"With the FIRE engine, if the engine cuts out when hot, will restart after about 10 mins, then last another couple of miles, the reason could be that the cable insulation cracks and shorts inside the distributor from the magnetic pickup to the ignition module. Results in no spark. Happens on cars from late E reg onwards. Pre mod distributors had red & green cables which never gave a problem."

It relates to Pandas with the "Fire" engine.
I know your isn't a "Fire", but it's something to think about.

This is quoted from another thread about Uno's cutting out, it seems to be a common problem with Uno's, mine used to do it and I thought I was the only one who had this problem until I came on here.

Search through the Uno part of this forum cause there is loads about them cutting out and a few a solutions

Check the following:

1. Vacuum advance
2. Magnetic Pick up coil
3. distributor coil

in that order

Contributors should note that the 1116cc engine mentioned in the initial post is NOT a FIRE type unit.

also check the fuel cut-off solenoid on the carb - if this is not working, or has a bad contact then it could cause these problems
