Having problems getting the headlights in my 1992 fiat uno chic to work.

when I flick the switch for the head lights I here the relay click but nothing happens I've changed the relays by the passenger side front door and checked the fuses.

when i flick the switch down to full beam I can then turn the fog light on but the main beam lights don't come on.

I've connected a wire to the battery and one to the lights... they all come on.

I guess the problem lies between the fuse box and the lights.

Anyone got any ideas???

Thanks for your time
Rob

Have you checked to see it there is voltage at the wiring connections to the headlights? It could also possibly be an earth problem, so check all the earth leads from the headlights. It may also be a faulty light switch, so if possible try and subsitute it for another. Other than that, you just need to work through the wiring to isolate the fault.

Slight revival...

My driver side main head light bulb comes on but is faint. I swapped it for the passenger side one with the same result.

However, both bulbs are very bright on the passenger side.

All help appreciated ;-)

clean all the collection of earths to body under the battery tray, you may need to renew some of the wiring, i started on the fan connections and ended doing nearly all the wires under the bonnet, Ant!

Tell me about it! You start with cleaning one bit and then you end up taking apart most of it to renew it all.

Headlight now working nicely!

Thank you

thanks Ant - I have just cleaned the connector stubs with a needle file (may have to use glass paper inside the clips) and indications are positive - will test tonight.
I have been driving with lights that don't always work for more than a year even though I have had the controls (that sit on the steering wheel) replaced.
so...
thanks again

Lol ya, the headlight dimming thing is a common thing with my uno, I have to clean those connectors every year. Works every time.

Hi guys I know this the old thread but am experiencing the same problem my lights were working just fine until the other day when they disappeared completely no headlight main beam nothing. Now I can't drive at night please help me what should I look for? Everything is working fine the indicators are there, hazards etc.

I think most of the answers are there in the previous posts. My approach would be to go systematically through all the connections from main switch to the lights themselves and try to find the point on the circuit where there is no power. It could well be the switch itself as both lights have suddenly failed. Do the rear lights come on or is everything worked by the switch dead?
