I gave up on the fibre optic (or whatever they are) leads to the instruments and put in the 12v LED's I got from Dick Smith. 2 red and the rest white. Looks good to me, I wanted two green ones but they only had red/white/blue.
 
Done, having done it I think the lights are a bit bright. The leds are listed as ultra bright, a bit dimmer would be better, IMO but I am not changing them now! You by them with the resistor presoldered in and with about 100mm of lead attached so all you do is connect them in, and oops put a couple of layers of shrink wrap on the and perhaps a layer of insulation tape and they just push in firm into the existing mounting holes. I got this idea from forum sometime ago. I can't remember the members name or the thread title. But he had many different colours. It was alexGS under "Uno Styling"
