Hi All,

I have an Uno with the 1100cc FIRE motor. It has a bit of an odd problem in that the ignition seems to advance itself over a period of weeks and gets to the point where the motor begins to 'pink'. I then have to retard the ignition a bit to stop the pinking. I fitted a new Fiat distributor some months ago as the old one packed in. At the same time I fitted new plugs and plug leads. I've checked to make sure the centrifugal advance weights in the distributor aren't sticking and also checked the vacuum advance, all are okay. I've even tried several different brands of petrol! My next suspect is the cam belt. I've not changed it since buying the car four years ago but I've inspected it and checked the tension, which is okay. If anyone has any ideas I'd be pleased to hear them.

Thanks

I have exactly the same problem on my 1100. After inspection, and refitting a new cambelt, I saw the crankshaft pully to be at fault. It has a little key machined in it that has worn off. Your definite culprit.
