So can anyone tell me the top speed of an Uno 999 i.e Fire, i have seen around that it is bout 93mph? correct? My Uno did 107 at full speed on a straight road. I do have a moddifed exhaust but its only the back box and its a Scorpion bike exhaust. I had my spedo checked last Mot and theres nothing wrong with that, so can it go 107?

I find it kinda funny,i find i kinda sad, the dreams in which im drivin my uno are the best i eva had!

Yeah, mine will get to bout 100 on the motorway if im pushing.
But i bet that 100 on the speedo is probably 93 (or less) in real-life cos speedos are really inaccurate at those speeds.

Yes, correct, speedo's are up to 10% out so at 100, this equates to an actual speed of 90mph in most liklihood.

moshpit; your speedo has never been calibrated beyond its standard setting (the police for example have calibrated speedos) and hence is out just like this.

Supposedly, top speeds are measured with half a tank of petrol and 2 people in the car, i.e. to simulate actual driving conditions, so therefore, if your weight is less than this, your top speed can be slightly more. In addition to thise, very slight inclindes/declines can also cause a big difference. You might not think it is a slope but in reality it might be a VERY shallow slope, the only way to test as such would be to do a run in both directions and compare speeds/times for 0-60 and if there is any difference, this could lead you to believe it's not actually flat. Another thing to think about is the lead up - if you have had a large slope to start off with and then level out, you might carry some of that speed through and hence you need to keep that speed up for some time to be in any way accurate (without even considering sensitivity of speedo). Yet another consideration is wind...a nice headwind will make a difference!

BTW: I have to give my obligatory speeding is illegal and neither of you should be travelling at such speeds on public roads :)

Mine tops out at about 145mph right near the rev limiter at 7200rpm :D

but i don't this was on a private road ;) and u shouldn't speed on the public highway :)
plus 140+ in a uno ain't safe lol!

Had 110mph out of my Uno rally car and that's just running the engine in, and using the standard carb.

Can't wait for the bigger carb, and the engine the free-up a bit :D

Cheers

The speedometer on my uno is very exact, I have a sensor on one of my rearwheel measuring speed displayed on my laptop.

jens; the most exact method is to use with a GPS receiver - otherwise any badly positioned sensors will lead to big errors.

I don´t know really. A gps is not exact (1-3m).
I have measured 100m and how many time this sensor are in "contact" with the holes.. (like an rpm signal on the flywheel)

Keep in mind that the tires affect the stock speedometer a lot.

A GPS is only accurate to 1-3 metres as you say for position but the way the GPS units work out speed is to average it - hence its accuracy.

Yes - different wheels firstly can affect it a lot but even something as silly as whether you have max/min tread can affect it somewhat (different circumference)

lol i can only get 80mph out of mine on a flat road and it dont reach 100mph on a hill about 97mph and then the needle is flying between 100mph and 85mph so i dont actually know! but i suppose i could be going faster cos ive got rather large wheels on it and i aint had my speedo sorted to them wheels yet so i may be doing 150mph i jst dont know lol

gotta love the uno's

Bear in mind that you can go faster in 4th than 5th gear. If you've still got your owner's manuals it says in the back the top speed of your car.

Freaky thing happened to me in Leicester today. Pulled up alongside exactly the same car. Practically had the same damn plate as well - same year, then the last three the same as mine. Of course, that one was red, where as mine may as well have Hotpoint written on it.
